Best but relatively inexpensive seats?

Hi all!

My son will be 9 months old on a few weeks and has grown out of his new born car seat.
Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on some good car seats that last up until at least 4 years? I feel like the Joie ones are far too expensive. Had anyone tried this one ...

I think 9 months is too young to forward face now with the new rules? And most infant carriers should last a bit longer than 9 months so definitely check he has outgrown it as it may last another 6 months ish- ours did. But if you do need a new one now then you can get a Joie tilt for £65 which would allow you to rear face him for just a bit longer and can then turn it forward when you feel you need to.
We have one for DH's van and it's great. Comfy for DD (now nearly 2) and easy enough to fit.

Join the Facebook group 'car seat advice for mummies and daddies' and read some of the information they have put together by car seat experts.

9mo is really far too young to forward face.

For only £5 more including delivery you could get this one to rear face till 18kg. or for £107 including delivery this one will last till age 7.

When you say grown out of, have you checked as per the car seat guidelines? A lot of people think their child has grown out of the first car seat because their legs look squashed up.
As long as his head isn't above the top of the seat and he is below the maximum weight, he can continue to use the seat. Should be until about 15 months, unless your DC is unusually tall/big.
It will be MUCH safer than moving to a forward facing seat at 9 months.

What makes you say the Joie ones are expensive? The Joie Tilt is only £75 which is a brilliant seat for that price and would allow you to keep your LO rear facing for a bit longer, as it's not really safe to forward face at 9 months.

It is a false economy IMO to get a seat which includes a high backed booster, because decent high backed boosters are cheap

That said the Evolva as you linked is a great seat too. And it's an exception to my "no high backed booster" rule because of the price. I just wouldn't use it for a 9 month old. Can your baby maybe stay in his seat for a bit longer? They haven't outgrown it until their head reaches the edge of the seat shell, or they get to 13kg, whichever comes first. Make sure you take the newborn insert out if he's seeming squished, and don't put him in any bulky coats.

Joie or Britax are the two brands you should look at for the combination of quality to price, anyway. Of course both companies also make upmarket seats but their basic ones are extremely good value. There are other cheaper seats available but I don't think their safety is as good.

I should add that I think a lot of the Joie seats which are expensive cost more because of this false HBB economy!

Thanks for the advice ladies! Hadn't noticed it didn't rear face been researching that many over the last few days I didn't couldn't remember which was which.

The joie ones I seen were £200-300 and simply we couldn't afford that but if your saying the tilt is a good one then we might go for that

Looks good. As that seat is an isize seat, you legally have to use it rear facing until your son is at least 15 months old regardless of size. :)
