Taxi-using parents, what car seat do you use for babies 12 months plus?

Does anyone use or know of a good car seat model for babies older than 12 months for non-car owners who use a lot of taxis?

Ideally there's one that can form a travel system with a stroller so we're not left lugging the car seat around after a taxi ride (currently use a Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus that fits onto a City Mini stroller with an adaptor).

But I'm not sure if there are any car seat-stroller travel systems for bigger babies/toddlers.

So alternatively, I wondered if there are any good lightweight car seat models that work well for parents without cars?

Legally you don't have to use a car seat in a taxi although obviously it's safer.
booster backpack I used this with DD, obviously doesn't cover current child restraint laws but might be better than nothing.

The Joie Stages is a good one because it is belt fitted, with quick to install and rear faces to 18kg (check your child's red book to find out when they will reach that weight).

We have this problem too- it was so much easier when he was in the baby seat!

We use hackney carriage type taxis and keep him strapped in his buggy, like on the bus. This is not ideal but only infrequent for short journeys. We avoid mini cabs but obviously this depends on where you are.

There is a definite gap in the market for travel systems for toddlers!

An impact shield seat was what I used and I'd recommend it as they are so fast to do. Other seats need installing and then to strap the child in whereas with these it's one motion.

If you are going to look at Joie, the Tilt is better value than the Stages.

You can't use a booster for a 1yo, it wouldn't work.

I’ve never seen anyone use one in real life, but it’s the kind of thing that seems perfect for us - only in cars when visiting family in the country so arriving by train.

Im glad someone saw my post about there being a gap in the market and got round to inventing something within the month
I've just ordered one so we'll see if it solves the problem

Yes, I’m thinking of getting one. The alternative is hiring one for weekends when we visit parents etc. They seem to be about £20 for a short hire.
