Boosters for 10 and 8 years

If you have kids of similar ages, what are they sitting on, booster-wise?

My 10 and 8 year olds are still in these massive Group 1, 2, 3 booster seats we got years ago. They are supposedly suitable up to about age 12, but they seem a bit massive and crazy now the kids are so big.

I just wondered what most children are using at this age. The 10-year-old is actually 145cm so I don't think she has to have one at all, but it must be safer to still have at least a cushion, and probably a high-backed one, right?

The law in the UK is 135cm or 12yrs (whichever comes first) but in other countries they are more strict, Germany for example is 150cm. I've always kept children in high back boosters for as long as they comfortably fit in them, even when they are taller than 135cm. They offer side impact protection which they wouldn't get from just a booster cushion.

My 9 year old doesn't use anything. He's far too big for a high backed seat. I don't know exactly how tall he is, but he was 145cm about 6 months ago, and his body is broad. He just didn't fit into his high back any more. Its not 'safer' to use a cushion unless it boosts them into a position where the seatbelt will be in the correct position. That's all its for.

My 7 year old is still in his high backed booster, and will remain there whilst its comfortable for him.

If the kids still fit comfortably into the high backs, then I'd leave them for now.

Thank you both. Seems I should leave them as they are for now as long as they are comfy enough, as you say.
