Car seat that fits various different cars?

Hey all,

Due in a week (eek!) and though we don't have a car (in London) we have just decided we should get a car seat to fit in friends' and grandparents' cars and also in an Uber.

We don't want to spend loads as it won't be used all that often.

Does anyone know what type of car seat is best suited to fitting in multiple types of cars? Does anyone in a similar situation recommend a specific brand / model? I have been looking online for a while and am getting nowhere...

I think the maxi cosi carseat is generally a great seat for fitting pretty much anywhere.

Maybe call the In Car Safety Centre as they are pretty spot on with all advice and see what they suggest?

It'll be more of a challenge when they outgrow the infant seat so try and buy one that lasts to a decent weight and height as well as fitting onto a set of stroller/buggy wheels as they weigh a fucking ton!

I think most infant carriers fit with most cars to be honest. I'd choose the one that can attatch to your pushchair (if appropriate) so you can clip it on and go. Failing that perhaps one like the joie stages/everystage that can be used all the way until 12 years

The infant carriers fit all cars as long as you get one which isn't dependent on a base. The most awkward stage as a non driver is the second stage (group 1) because newborn type seats are portable and high backed boosters you can get portable ones.

So you want to look at an infant carrier which will last a long time which means one with a longer back. Take a tape measure to Mothercare and have a look! I agree that having one which is compatible with your pushchair is invaluable - very useful if you get a lift somewhere but the bus back or vice versa. But these can be more expensive, so it's whether you find it useful or not.

Once they outgrow the infant seat I found Kiddy car seats with impact shield to be the most convenient as a non driver.

This is probably a really stupid question - can you get a car seat which is Isofix OR seatbelt? We've got both kinds of cars but just want one seat which is universal, but the car we use most is Isofix so I would prefer an Isofix with seatbelt option. I just can't find the answer on google! Thanks for any help!

Yes you can. There will be others but we have the maxi cosi pebble which can be fitted using an isofix base or directly using a seatbelt.
