'Reusing' Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix

I could use a little advice, my DH's family think I'm being pfb so I want to check my facts.

We bought a cabriofix in 2012 for my DS, he was in it for a full year and it was used every day - in the car and on the pushchair. It's been stored for a year, DH has given it to SIL to use and I've just found out we are expecting Dc2.

Will the seat still be safe for us to use with DC2 or would it be wiser to buy a new one (or tell SIL she can't have the seat)? I'm unsure of the guidelines; the seat will be 21/2 years old and the baby will be the 3rd to use it.

Thanks :)

It will be fine to use, as long as you know it's not been in an accident - which of course you do. 2 1/2 years is nothing.

I'm not sure of how long Maxi Cosi recommend their seats be used for (you could email them to ask). I emailed Britax about using the seats I had for DS when I was expecting my third child - they were 7 years old at that point and had been used by DS, DD1 and various nieces and nephews. They confirmed that their seats do not have an expiry date. DD2 has turned out to be very petite, she has a big rear facing seat in our car which is time-consuming to move so if we go in anyone else's car we are still using the Britax infant carrier or First Class combination seat that are now 9 1/2 years old (DD2 is 2 1/2 but only weighs 10.4 kgs and has not outgrown the infant carrier by height yet!)

That's brill, thanks for the advice :). I'll let the cabriofix be 'borrowed' then if it means I don't have to then buy a new one. I'll email and ask about expiry dates, I imagine they don't have one either as there is nothing on the seat suggesting one.

I wish DS had been petite so he could fit into the carrier for longer, he was out of it by 1 year so we had to buy 2 group 1 seats, for us and grandparents who look after him during the week. I know I'll end up doing the same again so I was apprehensive about lending out the cabriofix, the cost soon adds up! And it's not as if it can be avoided either.

Will be fine. Some do have an expiry date on the bottom. We inherited our first seats and passed them on

The expiry on a Cabriofix is 5 years but tbh I'm sceptical of these because Maxi Cosi were the first to implement them and its only them who seem to publicize it.
