I have a 2 year old boy with weight of 15kg using the maxicosi opal which is suitable from birth until 18kg. These days when he sits in the seat, his head comes above the top edges and no doubt before I know it he has outgrown the seat. I'm also due in a month with the new baby and was thinking of using the opal for the newborn and getting a 9 month to 12 year car seat for our boy. I'm still looking for a seat that has a harness as he seems to young to be just held by car seatbelt, and not particularly concerned with cost more with good reviews and safety. Any recommendations and advice would be great.
Thanks you

I would look at a rearfacing car seat for a 2 year old. Something like an axkid minikid or Britax Two way elite. Both long shells for your tall boy and both rearfacing and harnessed til 25kg.

Do bear in mind that car seats only last 5-6 years (the manufacturer will be able to tell you exactly for each seat) so it won't last until he's 12. :)

The Britax Evolva is a good Group 1-2-3 seat, and Britax seats do not expire. I have had this confirmed in an e-mail from them when I enquired about using the seats I had for my first child for my third. I am still, on occasion, using the Britax infant carrier that was bought in 2005 for my first baby. My youngest is nearly two now, but only weighs 21lbs and is petite, so if we need to go in a taxi I put her in that infant carrier.

Another vote for the Britax Evolva 123. I've used it for my two and they've been really comfy in it. And agree with pp about Britax lasting longer - I think my Britax infant seat has a 10yr expiry.
