Car seats

Fitting stroller... How useful?

My DH has been offered his brothers DS car seat for us to use but it's not compatible with our pram of choice.

It will save us money, plus potentially we would get a stroller which the matching car seat make doesn't fit in our car.

But are we going to be forever cursing that we didn't get a system with option to connect car seat to the stroller frame? Did people find this massively useful? Or did you not use tht option much?

Would really appreciate knowing if you think it's vital with a newborn or something can do without!

Hi,

I never had a 'travel system' where I could use the car seat as a pram. I just picked a pram I liked (a Mamas and Papas Ultima) and the safest car seat for our car (the Britax Cosy Tot, this was 8 1/2 years ago, I think that seat is now the Baby Safe but basically exactly the same).

I don't think you'll regret not having a car seat that fits on your pram, especially if it is your first baby. I'll admit that it would have been handy by the time I got to my third (for example I mostly walk the school run, but on the odd occasion I was in the car it would have been handy just to be able to put DD2 in her car seat on the pram wheels).

But overall, I don't think having a car seat that fits on your pram is necessary. I can see how it might be handy in some situations, but I think most people use their car seats as prams for too much - babies should be lying flat in a pram or carrycot, it is not good for them to be scrunched up in a car seat for too long. I think the clue is in the name - CAR seat, it's for the car!
