Besafe izi go/isofix bases

Does anyone have experience? We were going to get a cabriofix but then I spotted the izi go, which uses maxi cosi adaptors so would still fit our travel system - it looks good and seems to have got various safety awards etc and besafe's older seats have a good reputation.

I spoke to the In Car Safety Centre at Milton Keynes (too far away to go there unfortunately) but they have only just started to stock it and while they are impressed with it they hadn't had any feedback yet. John Lewis stock it but again no reviews...... Can find stuff about the izi sleep but that's kind of "unique" ! Works out another £30 for besafe, which on a £100 seat is quite a difference.

Also are the isofix bases for either worth it. I would go for it for convenience/peace of mind but DH feels it's not necessary and it does double price of the seat....

We were loaned an isofix base...and have removed it. It caused more problems than it saved. 1) you have to check that it's securely fitted as it can work loose as you attach and remove the car seat. 2) our baby would tend to slump forward when asleep because it made the car seat more upright 3) I often found removing the seat to be tricky 4) depending where the sun is you might want the car seat on the other side of the back seat on some journeys. We only tried it because it was free but even then are giving it back.

That's interesting to know - didn't realise they had so many down points - thanks :) Unfortunately we don't have anyone to borrow one off as would be useful before investing!

The other problem with bases is that I found it hard to remember how to strap the car seat in when I used it in someone else's car - I'd got used to just plonking it onto the base. But other people find them easy so maybe it's just a personal choice. They're blooming expensive though!

That's true as well though the other car thing probably won't be too much of an issue for us as our 2nd car is a 3 door 107 so not really big enough for us all to go out in, my husband's mum doesn't drive and my parents aren't local so baby will mainly be in my car. I don't mind the cost if it has an advantage, or is genuinely safer, just don't want to spend £100 on something I don't need, or as you say ends up being a pain in the neck.

I'm in a similar boat - thought I'm getting the pebble but the shop assistant talked me into izi go... There aren't many reviews online so struggling to decide. It won safety awards so I have no issues there but wanted to hear people's thoughts on ease of use etc. did you end up buying the besafe or have you gone for maxi cosi?

The BeSafe iZi GO is quite new hence few reviews but got a WHICH? Best Buy and both John Lewis and Mothercare stock it along with some Independent specialists listed on their website... so seems to be well respected.

I was at the Earls Court baby show yesterday and decide to go with the Be Safe iZi Go instead of the MaxiCosi pebble.

The things that swung it for me were:

• IZi Go has 5 point harness, whereas Pebble/Cabriofix only has 3 point harness.
• loved the funky space age hood, which stays up without handle needing to be up. (unlike MaxiCosi)
• now the MaxiCosi's can take a "family fix" base, which is an Isofix base that works for both Group 0 and Group 1 car seats, ie the same base can be used till around age 4. However for the Be Safe system will require another Isofix base for the next stage. Although I originally thought this was a downside for the Be Safe, I was told that the Group 1 seat is 5x safer than the Pearl (MaxiCosi's Group 1) - this is because the Be Safe seat is rear facing rather than forward facing. Actually it can either rear or forward face, but rear facing is safer due to less force on neck/back in the event of a head on collision. MaxiCosi Pearl can only forward face. Therefore although the family fix base might be a more economical option as it will last till age 4, it does basically tie you in to te MaxiCosi system, which is in theory less safe when you get to the next stage.

The guy from Peppermint spoke highly of the Be Safe, which they launched at last year's baby show apparently.

I only just noticed this thread and guess you made your choice by now. I went with cabriofix in the end purely due to cost - besafe with base would have cost about £90 more which was nearly 50% extra at the time. I've been very happy with it and isofix base is possibly my best baby purchase so definitely recommend. I got the older easy fix base as don' t want to use the pearl , planning on the besafe rear facing seat when he outgrows the cabriofix.
