Car seats

Smax and isofix

Hi

I'm looking at changing car soon, I currently have a toyota verso and it'll either be another verso or an S max.

A friend mentioned that she heard that te S max isn't suitable for isofix car seats as there are compartments in the floor. Anyone know about this?

I did post in Cars but got no replies

My smax has isofix on two middle row seats. Not the middle one.
Not on back row. 56 plate.
Everyone I know with smax uses isofix
Ford are a pile of crap when it comes to customer service though. So don't expect their staff to know!

I think the problem arises with the newer models, thanks for the reply though Smile

Check on fit finder on the Britax website and on the maxi-cosy website. I have had two cars with storage boxes and the O plus seats fits but the group !1 that have legs don't. Not all issfix seats have legs

Most isofix do have foot props.(In fact I can't think of any that dont)

You can not fit a foot prop on top of the lid as it can puncture through on impact in an accident.

You have to lift the compartments lids and see if the prop reaches and tensions on the floor or see if it misses the box.

Some props are longer than others. Often they dont reach though.

You can get fillers for these boxes from Ford.

Isofix is no safer than a correctly fitted belted seat.

Do you already have a seat or will you be purchasing it after the car. TBH I wouldnt buy a car with storage boxes now as they are such a pain when it comes to car seats!

Already have the seat. I just find isofix so much easier to clip in and out, will have 3 under 5 so anything that makes life easier.

I just don't understand why they would make a family vehicle that isn't suitable for a lot of baby car seats

Lagoon is correct, we have an smax but cannot have isofix because of the storage bins. It's a bit pointless for us though as we need access to the third row so need one of the isofix fitted middle seats to be car seat free.

I think, but don't hold me to it that you can either lower the leg to the bottom of the foot storage compartment or you can buy a special thing to fill the foot compartment.

I'll see if I can find a link for you

We have just got a second hand s max on an 09 plate. it had fillers already in the storage boxes, so no problems putting our maxi cosi priorifix in using the isofix. It doesn't have isofix in the middle seat but as we have a non isofix base for the baby seat that will go there, and the isofix booster seat on the other side.
The user guide is very clear you need the fillers in the boxes or put the leg onto the floor of the box, I haven't actually tried whether the legs were long enough to do this. when we looked at secondhand s maxes, not all had the fillers in them, but apparently you can get hold of them via a dealer.

Thanks so much everyone, does anyone know of the fillers can be taken out when you no longer need the seat

Couldn't find a direct link to the inserts but if you google ford isofix and floor storage there's quite a few posts about the S max and the Kuga which has similar problems. They say that there should be polystyrene inserts for the storage and if these are in then the support leg can be used.
I think they can then be taken out for it to be used as storage.
