Car seats

What car seat to get? We need to have 3 car seats in a Ford Focus

DC3 is due in June. We have a 2004 5 door Ford Focus.

DS1 is 5 and and DS2 is 3 and are both in forward facing car seats. It is a bit of a squash but we can fit people in the space between them.

We can't afford to buy a new car just yet and are hoping to have one by October.

We've been looking at the Maxi Cosi seats, either a Cabriofix or the Pebble.

Does anyone know if we will be able to get them all in the back?

Thanks

Oh and if they don't all fit in the back can we put one of the boys in the front and me go in the back?

Cripes this is going to be a squeeze! Were you going to get a base? (I don't think you'll have ISOfix)

I think you'll also find that the Britax infant seat is slimmer, lasts longer and is safer too (as well as cheaper) if you look at this link child seat safety place on facebook I've put pictures of the pebble and baby-safe SHR on there with a comparison :)

Is the 5 year old in a high backed booster?

I had this problem the other day with a customer, and in the end the baby was in the Britax babysafe with base behind the passenger, the 6 yr old in the middle on a booster cushion and the 4 yr old behind the driver in the Britax hi-liner. Although your 3 yr old will still be in a harnessed seat!
From this I think your suggestion of you sitting in the back with the 3yo behind the driver, new baby behind the passenger and 5yo in the front in a high back booster (airbag OFF but double check with manufacturer) might work.

I'd pop down to Halfords/Mothercare and try some seats, I know they can be hit and miss in the service but you can at least get an idea :)

Yes the 5 year old is in a high backed booster. No we weren't going to get a base.

I think we'll just have to go and try a few. Ideally we need a Maxi Cosi or a Britax so it fits onto the pram.

I feel like the Britax is narrower too. I often have to squeeze between one of these and a Klippan Kiss in the back of a 3 door Peugeot 207 and I'm sure there's more room now we have a Britax. You could also look at getting a narrower HBB and/or group 1 seat for the older two.

I have three in the back of a ford focus 2007 estate,

DD1 is 5 and in a Maxi Cosi Rodi SPS HBB (on rear driver side)
DS is 3 and in a Britax Eclipse SI (in centre)
DD2 is 12 months and still in a Britax Baby Safe Infant Carrier (on rear passenger side)

I went to the brilliant Essex In Car Safety Centre and they tried lots of combinations trying to incorperate the seats I had already, but this was the only combination they came up with.
DD2 needs to go into the next stage seat now and I haven't been able to find one that fits safely...yet.

hackneyzoo have a look at extended rearfacing for DD2 if you don't already know about it! It'll be alot easier to fit it in and it's safer too :) //www.rearfacing.co.uk has more info

Thanks ladies, I'm having my 3rd in June and have the same issue -how to squeeze 3 into our Mondeo, my DD is 4 next week, and DS is 2.5 so they are both in high back forward facing seats but I'm hoping that something will work!!
