Car seats

MaxiCosi FeroFix or Britax Kidfix?

With DC3 on the way, we need to get DD out of her Maxicosi Priorifix and into a high backed booster. She's 3.5, I haven't weighed her but think she'll be fine to move up into a booster. I think I've narrowed it down to either the Ferofix or the Kidfix. Does anyone know which is the best? Or any other recommendations? TIA

The Sunshine Kids Monterey is narrow and has adjustable wings so can be custom fit to a child and if you have ISOFix you can use the connectors on it so that it doesn't have to be strapped in if the child isn't sitting in it.

What car have you got? Some cars can easily take 3 harnessed car seats across the back (DH's Mazda Premacy has had three ext. rfing seats across and now has a ext. rf, and ext. harnessed seat and a SK Monterey in fine) so you might not need to swap seats over.

The thing with high back boosters is that the child is now responsible for their own safety not you as if they wriggle or reach over to pick up a dropped drink/toy they aren't safe (unlike in a harnessed seat where they can't do those things).

If she is ready to be booster trained she needs to be able to sit still for a whole car journey (you can build up by taking short, local trips) and to understand why she has to sit still, not fiddle with the seat belt, pick up things and keep her seat belt in the proper place. If she is capable of that and is over 15kg (preferable 18kg though) then she's ready for a HBB.

Thanks for your replies. Really good point truthsweet. I had absolutely not even considered the fidget factor. My DD is a definite fidgeter and not sure we could trust her to stay safe. We haven't bought our car yet so I think we'll look into that a bit more first. We have an Audi A4 at the moment and we definitely couldn't fit 3 harnessed seats in that. We're thinking about a Ford Galaxy or something similar. But maybe we could get away with a wider 5 seater. Food for thought! Thanks to both of you.
