RF with under floor storage

Has anyone bought a RF car seat that's doesn't have a leg?

Is the answer to buy one that fits with a belt and put it in the middle of the seat? But then DD wouldn't have a window to look out of, and car journeys are bad enough as it is!

Look for the Britax Two Way Elite or the Brio Zento, there are probably more but those I know of. I have two in the back of mine, one behind the driver one behind the front passenger.

Also, some car manufacturers sell foam spacers/foam fillers to put in the storage compartments so you can use a seat with a leg.

Ford UK Customer services (NOT a local dealership) sell them and they are mentioned in the manuals for the cars, see it referenced here www.fordmanuals.org/page-3055.html.
Someone on here, moonstorm I think, bought one for her Ford S-Max with a Besafe Izi RF seat, you could probably search for the thread and find it.

look at the two way elite. I had to get this seat for ds when I had a scenic. Have had it for nearly 3 years now and it's been a really good seat.

Hi there,
Yes, it's a Scenic. Really didn't want a TWE as I don't want a seat that has to rest on the passenger seat, but I suppose that's the only option if I can't find storage fillers.

Is there anything wrong with taking the lid off the storage and have the end of the leg in the base of the storage compartment? Or is the leg too wide to go in?

SleeplessInTheBattle Sat 20-Aug-11 07:24:17

Anyone tried sliding the rear seats forward to get the support leg past the storage lid? Not near a stockist so may have to buy online.

I have a scenic and was recommended the TWE by the Milton Keynes people.
I thought most seats depended on the passenger seat being tight to the seat?

SleeplessInTheBattle Sat 20-Aug-11 09:48:07

I don't think so, the Milton Keynes lady only mentioned the TWE as one that rests against the seat.

To enable the seat to recline do you have to push the passenger seat further forward?

HarrietJones Sat 20-Aug-11 09:57:02

Haven't got it yet. We have to wedge in the baby seat with the passenger seat though that's why I assumed that they all did

sleepevader Sat 20-Aug-11 11:19:53

I have been told by dorel maxi cosi that if the support leg reaches the floor with storage box lid off then its fine.

nicm Sat 20-Aug-11 15:06:30

the scenis didn't have floor fillers when i had mine. it wasn't a problem for us though. i had a KISS and it had a support leg and we test drove a vw touran and the support leg didn't reach the bottom of the underfloor storage. i have a hi-way 2 now and it has a longer support leg so maybe that would stretch to the bottom of it.

Thanks. So perhaps I should be looking for a KISS?

Debs75 Sat 20-Aug-11 16:36:46

If your car seat is wedged against the front passenger/driver seat then it isn't safe. It will push it out of position slowly over time.

nicm Sat 20-Aug-11 16:51:22

don't think the KISS leg would stretch as from memory the storage was deeper on the scenic than the touran and it didn't reach. i would look at the hi-way 2. it has passed the swedish+ test too.

SleeplessInTheBattle Sat 20-Aug-11 16:56:58

Sorry to be dim nicm, but do you know a stockist for the hi-way 2?

SleeplessInTheBattle Sat 20-Aug-11 17:00:09

Don't worry, found one on the in-car safety site. It says 'preset recline', does that mean you decide the angle of recline when you install it, therefore you couldn't change it with the child in it?

nicm Sat 20-Aug-11 17:13:39

yes that's where i got mine. it has a preset recline like the twe. i have had the twe now for nearly 3 years, had a kiss for just over a year and have just got two hi-way 2's. i have just preset it to the most reclined with added wedge for ds2 7 months and most reclined without wedge for ds1. i find this fine and their heads don't roll forward when they sleep.

Hi

The conversation has moved on a little, but yes we checked with Ford (You can buy the foam spacers). We even contacted Ford.no (Norway) who had tested the Besafe izi isofix in the S-Max who said it was fine to use the seat with the foam spacers. smile

Note also Britax are starting to test and ok seats with support legs on storage boxes with fillers...
