Car seats

car seat for 2 year old

Hi my DS age 2 is rearfacing in a Britax Two Way Elite. I now need another seat for DH's car that i dont mind being forward facing as its only for a short journey once a week. I know i could get another set of tether straps for DH's car but i really rather not take the TWE out of my car every week. So can anyone recommend a good car seat for a 2 year old that would also last till he is 11/12 years? saves me then having to buy a 3rd seat when he out grows the TWE around age 6.
I took a trip to the incar safety centre to try out a kiddy seat but he didnt like the impact cushion :-(
thanks in advance

I would just get a set of tethers. It's not that bad to move if you have the tethers already there. I move mine loads, sometimes more than once a week.

Hi. I have moved it several times and i hate doing it because i dont feel confident that ive done it correctly. It would just be far easier to get another seat that i can leave in the other car

Did you try the impact cushion once you were driving? DS hated it when I tried him with one in the mamas & papas shop, but he is fine with it now.

Does DH's car have isofix?

The evolva is good but very wide. It's okay if you never have anyone sitting in the middle seat though. Or the Recaro Young Sport, or STM Starlight, side impact protection looks good on these.

thanks bertiebotss i will look into those. I did hear the evolva was very wide so was undecided on that one. No i didnt try it when driving, am i allowed to test drive car seats? LOL! didnt think they would allow me to.

no isofix in the car but i could probably get isofix fitted as i dont think its too expensive to get it done.

the graco nautilus gets really good reviews too,its a 9m-12y seat too :)

i had an evolva and loved it,but it was a PITA to fit (very annoying if you were moving it often) and its also very wide (no use if you need to fit 3 seats in.
a few friends of mine have the recaro and are very happy with it :)

thank you. Ive heard the graco was is good and the recaro one although i read that the starlight one by recaro didnt do so well in the crash tests.

I think the starlight one didn't do too well in the which tests, which aren't just about safety but include other factors, but I'm not a member so couldn't check why. You can read them in the library though I think. IIRC it was because Recaro recommended taking the back off too soon or something, though you could always just... leave the back on! BUT I might be confusing it with a different seat so best to check the full report yourself.

yep, miust be some strange reason (im sure the fabric choices came into one of these tests too a while ago!) because the stm starlight seat and the recaro are the same seat :)
