Car seats

New car seat very poorly packaged - will this be safe to use?

Just taken delivery of our brand new stage 1 car seat and I'm a bit concerned about the packaging. We bought a Kiddy Infinity pro because we wanted the safest car seat we could buy but it's come ready assembled in one large box in a plastic bag with 3 long thin strips and 2 little bits of polystyrene for protection- they're not molded or anything, they're just strips. The torso protection shield had come loose and the bottom of the box had come undone - it was held shut by a strip of sellotape - and it's been rattling about in a Parcel Force van, so I'm worried any knocks it will have received in transit will have rendered it useless, in the same way that a crash helmet would be unsafe after being dropped. Should I send this back or am I worrying over nothing?

Hi, I'm not sure as I've always got mine in store. Can you call where you ordered it from and see what they say? But I'd be the same as you, worried! Can you not send it back and get a rear facing seat? ;)

Thanks nicm, I'm writing to them now to see if they'll take it back - took me so long to find this post again! I'm soooo confused, I thought Kiddy must be the best as it's top rated here and on Which, but from what other threads say they're not very safe for the little ones neck in an accident. I just don't have much time to read up on things these days - soory, I hope this doesn't make me a troll Blush

Kiddy seats are safer for the child's neck in an accident. Some people find that their child can push the impact cushion. I think that's because the seat belt needs to be pulled really tight and the booster cushion inside the seat needs to be in place until the child is big enough to be snug in the seat without it. I'd definitely buy a Kiddy seat if I was going to get a forward facing one personally.

Thanks aswellasyou, would you buy a front or a rear facing seat? what's your group 1 seat of choice?

i know how it is tinysock, never seem to get a minute either! the kiddy seats are supposed to be safer than a 5 point harness ff but they're not as safe as rf in an accident. a site which is good for rf info is //www.rearfacing.co.uk

I do love my KK2! Smile More importantly, my daughter's really comfy in it.
