Rearfacing car seat for teeny (7.25kg) 15 month old - HELP!

The little man is just over 14 months and only just over 7kgs. He is still in his maxi cosi cabriofix, which I think is up to 9kgs/15months. His legs are hanging way too far over at the bottom but he still has lots of room before his eyes are level with the top. The leg thing is becoming an issue.

I want to go with an extended rearfacing car seat and did the research months ago and decided on the Recaro Polaric - only he needs to be 9kg and he is only gaining a pound a month at most...... so we could be a while!

Anyone know if there any extended rear-facing ones for teeny-boys?
I did find one from ?8kgs (possibly a Britax - but it was out of stock everywhere)

Help me, please, before I go nuts googling!

Could you get something like a Britax 1st Class? DD had one, and they can go from birth up to 13kg rear facing.

DD is nearly 3 and a half and still not at 13kg yet, so if your son is also small then you might well get "extended" use out of it anyway, even if it is not technically in that category. In any case you could definitely use it straight away and it is nice and roomy.

DD went into her BeSafe Izi Combi when she was about 7kg. She was 7 months at the time. She's always loved it in there. It sits a lot higher than the Britax First Class, and she gets a brilliant view out of the side and rear windows, and has plenty of leg room to kick about in.

The Britax first class was our fall back if the besafe didn't fit in the car.

Thanks both - that gives me something to think about.

I got a britax first class when dd2 was about 18 months and as she is also small an hoping to get 'extended' use out of it. It does sit quite high up. It dosen't have a support leg or tether straps that most of the extended rearfacing seats have, so is easy to fit i most cars. The seatbelt round the back can make getting the child in and out a bit fiddly, but dd2 is now 2 and can climb into the seat herself from the back seat ( if she is in the right mood)

We have a Britax - I think it's a Hiway - from Sweden
The Britax roundabout would also work but it's an American seat
Both are from birth

would you not look at the britax hiway? i looked at one last week for ds2 but the foot prop wouldn't reach the floor of my car! :( it costs £200 and the first class is about £150 and only lasts to 18kgs and the hiway lasts to 25kgs.

:)

Sunday Times In Gear car supplement had an article on rear facers this weekend (as being much safer than forward facers)
As well as the ones above they mention Maxi Cosi Opal as suitable from birth to 18kg
