I miss camping...

We only started camping this year. We love traveling so it seemed like a good plan with a small DD and no cash to spend on the type of exotic foreign holidays we used to have. We loved it! And so did DD. But what do campers do in the winter when you can't go camping and you can't afford weekends in hotels or fancy foreign trips?

Brrrr! Am a fair weather camper now but there are suggestions here in this article

TheBalladofGayTony Fri 25-Sep-09 18:23:32

get a camper van!

Oh, I would love a camper van but lack of cash prevents this. Maybe next year....

If it was just DH and me we would probably go for it but I would be too worried about DD being cold. sad

I think the cool camping book has sites which are open all year in it- www.coolcamping.co.uk I am missing camping already- went camping for 5weeks in June-the novelty of being in a house has worn off and now I want to go again!! Damm autumn!!

Me too.

I really thought we might manage one more weekend away before it got too dark and cold, but they have all been gobbled with relatives and dos and parties.

Roll on spring (is Easter early or late next year do we know?)

Me too.

I was so hoping for one more trip, but it just isn't gonna happen now <<sigh>>

I have taken to checking out cheap camping equipment onloine instead. It is all reduced!!!

Slubberdegullion Tue 06-Oct-09 11:30:49

oooh seen anything nice? I have put away my kit buying hat and have instead this week spent £100 om cake decorating stuff and a new pair of sheepskin slippers.

humph

overmydeadbody Tue 06-Oct-09 11:35:46

lol I like your stype slubber

I have found some tents actually, greatly reduced, now just have to choose between tham as we desperately need a new tent.

overmydeadbody Tue 06-Oct-09 11:36:14

stype?!

Jeez, I meant style obviously.

Slubberdegullion Tue 06-Oct-09 11:40:56

<flashes lovely stype at omdb>

oh linky linky of new tents. Let's have one final splurge of tent porn.

overmydeadbody Tue 06-Oct-09 11:48:00

I am also <<yawn>> looking for new waterproof trousers for DS and I.

overmydeadbody Tue 06-Oct-09 11:50:45

the vango

I like it, but it is a bit over budget.

overmydeadbody Tue 06-Oct-09 11:52:02

the Gelert Tempest

This is DS's fave, and at this price, I am surely tempted to get it.

overmydeadbody Tue 06-Oct-09 11:53:52

if money where not an issue I'd get this Aztec.

Slubberdegullion Tue 06-Oct-09 11:59:06

Oh but omdb you cannot stand up in either of those to put your pants on [disappointed]

I thought you were warming up to the idea of doing a spot of civilised camping, you know sleeping on something other than the cold hard floor, and not using stones as chopping boards?

The Gelert is a super bobby bargain price - but it's only single skin, won't it be a bit condensationy. Not that you mind a spot of dampness I'm sure. You probably laugh in the face of condensation.

Slubberdegullion Tue 06-Oct-09 12:00:05

coo-er the aztec is very fancy.

Our last camp of the year is always halloween weekend. We do a few camps a year where we all get together in a big field with a marquee and party all weekend so halloween party is our last do of the year, can't wait. grin

I hate being cold (or wet) when camping so wouldn't want to camp after october but do miss the nice weather and the camping that goes with it.

Slubberdegullion Tue 06-Oct-09 12:06:45

envy

overmydeadbody Tue 06-Oct-09 12:26:14

oh no!! I don't want condensation, I hadn't noticed it was single skinned <<disappointed>>

Slubber don;t tell anyone, but I an <<whispers>> going to buy us some airics, luxury camping here we come, but a lent we can stand up in?!shock That is asking a bit much. I don't think any 2 berth tents are big enough to stand up in are they?

Slubberdegullion Tue 06-Oct-09 12:28:18

Oh I am glad. I was worried about you and your poor old bones on the floor. So long as you don't get a carpet for your tent I think you are safe and can still be called a minimalist.

overmydeadbody Tue 06-Oct-09 12:30:53

<<phew>>

We do have an Aldi picnic rug that we use inside our tent as a sort of carpet. Someone (maybe you?) suggested it on here and it makes our tent all cozy and warm despite the minimalism grin

Slubberdegullion Tue 06-Oct-09 12:32:07

Rug is SAFE. Carpet is the death knell to minimalism.

BoysAreLikeDogs Tue 06-Oct-09 12:33:41

oooh oooh

<awooga awooga>

(that is an alarm sound in case you were wondering)

I am the proud owner of a tent, purchased unseen from a neighbour of my dear sister in Cheshire

<jumps up and down>

£150. Please be kind and make murmuring noises of appreciation even if you think it's a heap a junk

Haven't seen it yet, she (dear sister) is bringing it down to me, special like, this weekend grin grin
