I am not looking forward to it

a hotel? a pub? I can't stand camping in the rain. We do youth hostels in the UK these days for that reason.

a big canopy helps

and a pack of cards / some games
and wine

waterprrofs that are actually waterproof.... and a door mat so that wet shoes / boots can easily be removed but not get in tent at all!

Just had a week of it and not sure I have the answer, not looked for weather this week - is it very bad or just possibly? Will keep fingers crossed for you.

We tried to get out in the rain - it fell pretty hard at times last week and the noise was too much for me! Soft play featured a couple of times. A woodland walk was pretty good as there was surprisingly little rain under the cover of the trees (if you didn't mind the mud anyway).

Survived though, and have come back wanting to go again sometime soon so not so bad. Worse part of the week was the 24 hours of constant, very heavy rain we had - felt like it would never stop! Other than that we had nice parts of each day and tried to focus on those.

you pack up and come home before you end your marriage

Not sure really, when we went last year it rained the whole week pretty much and I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. We did though and the kids loved it. Have you got croc types shoes, they are a blessing in the rain. Take games and books as well or go out for the day.

last year it rained solid the whole 10 days
we did have fun as we were in a big group but everything got wet.

There is no solution imho. You just have to come home. Why put yourself through that?

Board games, hot chocolate (although very hard to make in said weather).
One activity we all enjoyed was collecting stones on the beach (in the pissing rain) and painting them on the floor of the tent (whilst it was pissing rain outside).

We don't really. We camp a lot but postpone or come home or go to a hotel if the weather's bad. We were supposed to go camping last weekend and this one and have just not gone. Irritating, but it's just not much fun.

trouble is we are going with all of Dh familiy so we have to go.

Can't. Unless it is boiling hot and then you worry about thunderstorms.

Mind you, it is only persistent rain that is a problem. Intermittent rain can be fine.

Two tips: Make sure the campsite has drying facilities, and make sure you have plenty of warm indoor activities planned during the days.

Then lots of hot chocolate and games of cards.

wet suits too so the kids can go in the water even if it is cold

TsarChasm Sun 19-Jul-09 10:56:26

I drink a lot...blush Shuffles off with chipped mug and brown paper bag <weeps>

I'm such a fair weather camper, it's painful!

The trick to camping in the rain is to carry on as normal, even embrace the rain (puddle jumping and muddy football can be hilarious) just make sure you have plenty of clothes, towels and hot chocolate.

I'm going to the only one that says this...

Go out during the day, always lots of things to that rain doesn't affect (I do a massive online search before we go and print off good and bad weather activities)

Night time/evening - We do take books, and things to do BUT we also have an electric hook up, a portable TV and a battered old PS2 (play games/watch DVDs) Three stir crazy children in a tent in the rain is Hell. I'm happy to cheat during the crap bits.

we have a triple gazebo to all sit under and sil has organsied games
