Cigarette butts on websites

For the first time, I will shortly be going to a small rural but popular campsite and am curious about what awaits me.

Mainly, I am wondering how clean they are, as in, the actual fields where you pitch your tent. On one level, I like the idea of the rustic idyll, where you arrive, pour the kids out of the car and pitch up a tent on fresh, slightly trodden grass/ground. But even if the previous tenants have cleared up their rubbish, but sometimes people don't consider cigarette butts rubbish, so...

I have a bit of a wierd thing, bordering on a phobia, about cigarette butts. That is going to make me sound mad, but there you go. I have always had it. It makes going to a busy beach for example, nigh impossible. Walking to school via local pubs is now a bit of a gag fest. I don't have a thing about smokers at all, honestly. It's just a butt thing.

I don't know why I am this way. Point and laugh if you like, I would point and laugh at myself too if I didn't find it so bloody tiresome. But it is an issue, and I thought I would sound you clever campers out about it.

Sorry, but lol at "cigarette butts on websites"

I have no idea of the answer for your question btw, but at least my little chuckle bumps the thread for you.

I could point and laugh atthe typo butthat would be mean

I haven't ever noticed cigarette buts when I've pitched. Maybe I'm just unobservant but I think I would have noticed.

Gosh that must be very difficult for you. Have you ever thought about getting some help with out? Not what the thread is about though ... .

Hand on heart I have never found anything on any pitch I have gone to set up camp on, other than ants.

When you say websites do you by any chance mean campsites?

May depend on the campsite, but we tend to go to quiet ones which don't have them. Might have found the odd one, but certainly not loads and loads.

If it's a proper campsite and not rough camping (on a beach, or at a festival for example) it'll be clean. I don't recall any butts when I've been camping.

Oh Fork. I obviously meant CAMPSITES. Sorry.

I am new to this forum and was trying to be so careful. My head was going before my typing fingers.

i don't know how to change my initial post thing..

I don't think I've ever seen any cigarette butts on a campsite - campers tend towards the eco generally - you don't even come across many people smoking on the whole at all

Welcome to the camping threads Putty
I don't think you can change your original post but don't worry-we knew what you meant anyway

Must say have never seen any cigarette butts either. My dp is a smoker and we use a baked bean or beer can to put his cigarette ash and butts in as we like to leave the campsite clean and tidy as i think most people do.

Hi FeelingOld, I hope you don't think I'm being negative about smokers, I'm cool with it. Some of the friends we are going camping with will be smokers and it is whatever. I'm just a bit hung up about the butt thing that's all!

But thanks everyone for your info. I'll report back. Maybe even with pictures!

Putty - its ok i hate him smoking but he is never gonna give up so have learnt to accept it!! Just trying to say that most campers like to leave their pitch clean and tidy.

I've never seen them either Putty.

Campers on the whole are a pretty considerate bunch and tend not to be litter louts.

i see you are on the bucketeers thread - you will then realise fag ends are the least of your worries!

Sorry to hear you have a phobia. Camping aside, it sounds as though it is restricting other areas of your life. Have you considered hypnotherapy/NLP to try to get rid of it?
