Just thinking of buying a Vango Diablo 400 or 600 but the camping and carvaning club said a lot of sites might have a problem with a footprint over 7m by 5m. Anyone had a prob at a site with the size of their Diablo?
Can anyone recommend a family sized tent that would be more like 5m by 7m ? Need room for two adults travel cot and 5 year old

Why not look at the tunnel-type tents rather than the geodesic (sp) ones, their shape works better on most pitches.

Having said that, I saw several diablos when we went in May, not much space between them though and the c&cc are stricter about the distance between tents I believe.

We have a HUGE wynnster satellite 12 (780 x 870 cm footprint), but if you go to sites with a field where you pick a spot there is no problem - it is only where there are marked boundaries that you may have an isssue.

Outwell Montana 6 or similar
here
It's about 4x6 metres

Agree that the tunnel ones fit better onto most pitches. Some campsites are a little sniffy about tents with sleeping pods coming off at angles.

the montana 6 looks lovely but very expensive, even selling for loads second hand on ebay. Can anyone recommend another tunnel tent that is not quite so pricy but still good?

We've only had one or two sites say no to our Diablo 600. It is a great tent and very tough for windy coastal camping.

Depends on the site but there are usually options if you ask around

Lots of tunnel tents to suit- Khyam Ontario is excellent and every make does a version now such as gelert etc

We've got a Diablo as well as this one. The Orchy obviously isn't as big as the Diablo but I prefer it as it's easier to pack, clean, store, etc.

under £200 I am thinking. The Vango Orchy looks like a potential good one for me, especially as first camp with kids is without DH to help me pitch and my old tent was a very simple two man storm tent pre kids. Thanks for that tip. Also I will investigate the ontario. Any other opinions?

We've just bought the vango tigris 800, I think it's footprint is within 7m x 4m. It was about £230 although millets had last years version for £199, that had only a 2000 waterhead-thingy though.

It is huge, and we found it easy to put up in the garden, although there were two of us. I'm not sure whether I could do it alone, I'm planning on trying though - with 5 mins help from a friendly camper I think it would be fine.

One of the reasons we bought it was its smaller footprint however when we were looking at campsites last weekend several still quoted us quite a lot for it as it is an 8berth. One woman told me they charge for the grass actually covered so a multi-dome style tent would have costed no more!
