camping gaz vs butane, i'm a bit frightened of the gas. it's like a bomb, isn't it?

anyhoo i need to buy a stove, have borrowed a butane one so far and it's been fine. didn't buy the aldi stove cos i'm wary of the gas, but if someone can outline the pros and cons i'd be grateful. (and then LIVID if i've missed a trick not buying the aldi stove).

what's the difference? I thought they were both gas to attach to cookers?

they look so big, the canisters. and well, they're shaped like a bomb. and they have to live on the ground and dd1 is three and dd2 is pulling herself up on anything available and they look pretty big to cart around as well... butane seems cleaner, easier etc.

with the butane you just go 'click' and it's in and housed in the stove and you're away.

LOL! I'm pretty sure if you have the regulator and stuff attached firmly enough it'll be FINE!

I take a can of errrrr orange stuff - propane? for my cooker; it's always been fine in all the years I've been camping

I don't really know how butane works tbh. I am loyal to camping gaz.

tbh so long as you

follow the instructions on how to set it up (with those mutha clips and all)

don't cook in your tent

always have a fire bucket/extinguisher to hand

create an area where dds are verboten (or instruct dh to watch them like a hawk while you are cooking)

all should be well.

Aitch, seriously they are fine and very safe. We've been camping with our 2 young dd's and they are both kept well away from the stove when it's on.

We keep them inside the tent, they are too small to reach the zips on our tent and we cook outside in our extension.

oh of course, slubs, but why do that if you don't have to? there must be some advantage to the gas as it's so popular. with the butane you really just click the can in like in a pair of heated tongs. (in the 80s, obv).

There is an article in my camping and caravaning magazine (by the loo) all about different cooking fuels, pros and cons etc I have only skimmed through it.

next time I need to erm, sit for a longer period, I will read up and report back.

would you? that would be great, thanks. i don't think the butane lasts long, actually, i reckon we used one can, costing about £1.50 over a long weekend.

Is it IC? Is it the same thing in a different tin? What is calor gas then? is that the same thing too in an orange tin?

Aitch, that sounds expensive.

are you really puzzled, iotascat? i keep talking about the canisters that click in and you think my objection is the actual nature of the gas?

it's probably the price, then, slub, if the only difference is the delivery method.

oh well, i can think of a thousand ways you could have got that message across without making me feel like a nob. apols for not knowing the exact jargon to use. do you have anything helpful to add wrt my actual question?

let's not get hung up about brand names, i'm really just looking for pros and cons of the various fuels. (and looking to justify a cobb).

Aitch I really wasn't trying to be awkward I really didn't understand the question and I wanted to be helpful.
