Ball and waterproofs top tip as are bin bags. I would have forgotten them.

I always take a spare bag to put dirty clothes in. And one to carry all my clobber in to the shower block (useful for hanging while in the shower too).

I find babywipes invaluable for all sorts of things.

Are PJs included in clothes?

Pegs are useful too.

I know this will come as a shock to anyone who knows me, but screw top wine is good in case you don't finish the whole bottle .

to save on cooking i precook casseroley/bolognesey type things and freeze them, they gradually defrost in the coolbox and you don't have to faff with icepacks (for short trips), also freeze cartons of juice and milk, they can last a couple of days before they defrost completely

sounds bizarre but in the wet weather they dont drag in the mud; also crocs type shoes for same reason (they hose down easily, I take them as well as wellies)

These are great tips, thank you. I am particularly pleased about the table being mentioned as I said we need one to DH and he thinks not yet.......(He is trying to restrain my spending till after this trial run so that we know what we really need.) I said crocs too as perfect for the shower block trudge.

You lot with your 'everything but the kitchen sink' make me chuckle

I heart you all though, and think of you when I see families in the campsites with their huge tents with multiple rooms, carpet, little kitchens set up, tables and chairs, bunting, whole playrooms for kids, washing lines etc etc etc

A table will definitely make things much easier. Apart from anything else, if you put your wine down on the grass it may be uneven and spill.

washing lines essential imho - unless you have room to take a million changes of clothes/towels etc. - a ball of string and a few pegs takes up a lot less room!

although we do have a huge tent (well, frame ones, so tall) for which i thank my lucky stars every time it rains or the kids get up at 6 o'clock and we can turf them out of the bedroom :P

That is a good enough arguement for me!!!

DH is getting sleep mat things from his work and hopefully an extra sleeping bag. I wouldn't have taken pillows....still not sure I will??? Pegs though......

Oh that comment was about the table. A washing line too??? Really.
If it is that bad I think we might just come home . I will be taking LOTS of clothes though to layer up.

I doubt you'll need a washing line for just a weekend, especially if you have lots of clothes anyway.

There is something quite luxurious about having a pillow when camping, so if you have room in the car, you might as well bung them in.
