Supermarket deliveries to campsites?

Has anybody ever done this?

We're going away for May Bank Holiday and will be a group of 12 adults and 5 kids.

The cars are going to be pretty full up with all of the camping stuff and we won't easily fit food in for this many people. We don't really want to be dashing off to the nearest shops as soon as we get there, or having to shop every day so I was wondering if anybody knows whether supermarkets deliver to campsites?

I tried but Tesco wouldn't accept the order as the address I gave was classed as a business address.

I phoned and asked them if there was a way round it and their suggestion was to pick a nearby address and then put instructions in for the driver .... but I didn't risk that.

I think they would deliver as long as you can get the order accepted online. But, having had a problem with an order getting delivered to a cottage in Cornwall, my advice would be to stay in close contact by phone with them on the day. You can get to speak to the drivers and give them instructions if you need to. I assumed that as we (and 3 other cars) found a cottage we'd never been to via Sat Nav that a local delivery driver would too .... sadly not the case and 13 hungry people on the first night of our holiday and dd without nappies .

I'm going to try Asda this year. I think it's a really sensible idea. We've kept our shopping list from last year so I can order all the same stuff.

surfermum How do you get the number to speak to the driver?

We did it recently at a holiday cottage and it worked perfectly which is what gave me the idea.

I was just trying to remember how it all went ... there were lots of phone calls as they couldn't find our cottage!!

The problem all started when the driver rang us en route but couldn't get through as there was no signal in the village we were staying in. He claimed he couldn't get his van down to the cottage (we'd got a minibus that was larger than his down there!) so turned round and went back to the store. We were sat happily in the cottage assuming a local would be able to find us!

So I think they do try to make contact with you. But I was able to get the phone number for the driver the next day via the helpline, who gave me the number of the St Austell store, who gave me the driver's mobile.

Am I making sense?!

Yes - lots! Thank you

I've just rung Tesco as their site says that they don't deliver to business addresses but they have double checked with the store who will do the delivery and they are happy to do it - whooppee!

I think I'll put mine and DHs mobile numbers on the delivery instructions - we're with different networks so hopefully one of us will have reception.

Ooooooh - this will make the trip easier - 14 adults will eat a lot of food and drink a lot of wine over a long weekend!!

Where are you going?

It does make things so much easier. One cottage we've been to 3 times will actually take the frozen stuff in for us and put it in the freezer if we haven't arrived.

After doing this last Bank Holiday, I have just confirmed that Tesco will deliver to our next camping destination!

We go with friends, so this time will be 12 adults and 5 kids - that's a lot of food and drink!

I can honestly recommend this as a fantastic way of having more space in the car!
