Absolutely gorgeous!! My family is from around that area. My Dads cousin owns Coniston Hall which also has a campsite, stretching all the way down to Coniston Water. Also family used to live in Town End, a National Trust property at Troutbeck.
Family still farm the hills around Windermere, Dad and many family members buried at troutbeck church.
LOVE THE WHOLE AREA. But live in the South so it is cheaper to go see my Mum in Spain. Would love to go up to Lakes this year but can't afford to.
Had a lovely week up in Coniston last year with MIL, weather was beautiful. couldn't be anywhere better in the world. Lucky you, ENJOY!!!

YEP. So pround an old family home is now National Trust, might not be a mansion but it was mine, once.
Also family lived in Pooley Bridge.
DD2 is so perplexed that her middle name is 'beck' (means stream in Cumbrian)
Am so proud of the connection but it might as well be in Alaska given it takes us 5 hours and a fortune in diesel to get there!! Still feel do at home there when we make it though.

Nearby is Dalemain house. Lovely walks from campsite to Pooly Bridge. Boat trips on the lake steamer.

I remember the days when camping at Waterside House was just putting your tent up in the farmer's field, campfires on the beach, watching the sheep dogs tearing around chasing sheep, one tractor tyre swing and no facilities at all. Ahh, those were the days.

Forgot to say, nearby Penrith (I think) has a swimming pool with waves and slides. Keswick is fairly close with pencil museums and the like.
