Will an 8 month old freeze if we go camping in May?

Thinking of a camping holiday in early May, when DS will be nearly 8 months old.

From camping at this event in previous years, I know the weather can incredibly changeable, sometimes it's baking and sometimes it's freezing (think May bank holiday...), but do we think DS will cope if it's really chilly?

And yes, I appreciate that this is bloody ages away and I am a PFB mother, but I need to book the tickets if we're going, and I'm sitting here humming and haa-ing about it! The tickets aren't insanely expensive, so if it comes to it and he's not sleeping/ill/otherwise likely not to cope, we can abandon, but just wondering if I'm being silly contemplating booking it.

This summer it was colder in August than it generally is in May! I would go for it. If it is very cold he could sleep with you.

I presume he'll be in the tent with you and your DP, rather than in a tent of his own?

I'd say that any baby tucked up with their mum and dad is unlikely to freeze. You can easily pack a grobag and blanket for truly chilly eventualities.

Unless you were planning to put him in a travel cot? Hmmm... I'd still think that a sleeping bag with additional blankets if necessary would be ok. If it turned out to be really cold I might give it a miss though.

I'd sort of thought of putting him in his own travel cot, but there's no reason he couldn't come in with us if it's a bit chilly!

Will go ahead and book it and come back nearer the time looking for ideas for keeping him toasty warm. Hope he becomes as much of a camping geek as me and DP

Put him in with you and he'll be fine. Mine started camping at 3 months and they are both still alive!
