supposedly it will be dry in some areas
DD is desperate to visit a beach, but they are 3 1/2 hours drive in every direction, so we will have to stay over....

Help please!

Metcheck says S and E best for weather, so you need to get a map of UK and draw a line in a 4 o'clock direction. Where your line hits the sea, that is where you should go camping.

Where do you live?

You might find a lot of campsites will only take two or three-night bookings over the weekend. If you are planning on going without booking then make sure it's in an area with lots of sites so you have some options in case some are full.

It will be sunny here, Suffolk.

Meg has a good point. Last BH w/e we had to book and pay in advance for 4 nights.

I am in West Midlands.
4 o'clock from us will likely be very busy if it is dry...
Umm, only want to do one night really- am pg, and exhausted tbh.

ummmm how about a back garden camp with fake beach (sand pit plus paddling pool) and a large mound of LU puddings to eat?

W midlands, is that nearish to Shropshire?

[did not do gcse geography]

This site in Wentor got a very good review in this month's Camping magazine. Not by a beach but it sounds peaceful.

rofl- back garden is a swamp at the moment! (she has a sand pit though) Has rained non-stop all summer!

Erm, WMids is politesse for Birmingham!
(Obv the posh part!)

I'm afraid Shropshire is too far from the beach for us

Birmingham is not 3.5 hrs away from a beach - what about Brean or Weston or Burnham on Sea etc?

Report
EachPeachPearMum · 20/08/2008 21:25

Um- I believe Weston is a dump, but feel free to correct me!
I have never heard of Burnham or Brean (am not actually from midlands)

You're right- Weston is 2 hours drive, sorry.
I was going off last time I drove to Wales.
I think Norfolk is similar time.

IME most seaside towns are a bit on the seedy side. I have never camped in any of those places (apart from caravan in Brean Sands when I was younger). Burnham on Sea looked lovely when we visited recently.

Weston is a dump I agree, but would be very interested to know about other places near there

Have heard of Brean sands. Aren't there lots of caravan parks there?

Had a quick gander on UKCS and there seem to be quite a few campsites in Burnham - didn't read the reviews though!

Thanks people!
Will start looking at reviews... metcheck says it will be vaguely sunny down there.

The forecast for South Wales was looking good last time I looked.

Yup, forecast ok for here.

You really need to go as far as Gower though before you get to a decent bit of coast. There are nice beaches before then - there are a couple of campsites near Rest Bay (Porthcawl) if you only want a night away. don't know what the sites are like though.

No. Gower is beautiful. Especially if you find a little out of the way campsite with few facilities.

South Devon on the other hand smells of poo.

(10 hours and I'll be on the train!!!)

rofl Sally- I have been to Gower- thats what takes 3.5 hours from Bham...

Yeah, it was horrible

Don't need/want 'facilities' other than a loo- we are minimalist types

Norfolk's sunny today and supposed to be quite good - particularly Monday. How about www.breckfarm.co.uk? About 2 miles from the beach (too close to the beach otherwise it gets too breezy).
