The long range forecast for the week we are in Cornwall is rain, rain and more rain.

We went to Cornwall on Monday - scorching weather all the way down until just south of Bristol then we didn't see the sun again until today (after we packed up and came home early!)

It wasnt just rain either, the site we were on was no where near as sheltered as we were expecting - it was gale force winds and torrential downpours almost constantly.

We packed up after two horrendous nights, the second of which the wind was so strong it actually stretched the stitching between the awning and the campervan, whilst the awning (thank god for delta pegs) strained really hard to take off but didn't 'quite' manage it!

Kids and DH in the van had a dry night, I was sleeping in the awning and kept having to move the bed to avoid drips and howling gales!

After texting home to check what the weather was like there we decided to cut our losses, come home and do some of the days out the kids are always begging us to do and we keep saying 'yes - maybe one day'. Had a lovely day at Warwick Castle in blazing sunshine today, so looks like we made the right decision. (Although I believe the forecast for Cornwall is better from tomorrow and we were actually due to stay until Monday.)

We have another week booked in Pembrokeshire late August, suffice to say we will be watching the forecast very closely and will give it a miss if the weather looks anywhere near as bad.

Take no notice of the forecasts - the weather here can change very quickly and the forecasts are often wrong.

Anyway....cornish rain is nice - makes everything smell lovely

That's what we thought. We were watching the forecasts but thought we would give it a go anyway.

Thing is, the forecasts were right!

A bit of rain I can cope with, even regular rain interspersed with lots of grey cloud and no sunshine, but it did not stop raining for the whole time we were there and it wasn't light rain, it was torrential! That coupled with the howling gales which eventually succeeded in breaking the awning were just too much.

Maybe I would've coped better if I wasn't pregnant and hormonal, I normally love camping, but this time it just wasn't to be.
