If we wanted to get a TV for when we go camping (going to stay somewhere for a looonnngggg time to be near family this summer!) Do we need a special type of TV? What about arials and stuff?

Also, any recommendations for the electric coolbox things?

Why would anyone in their right mind want to take a tv camping with them?

The mind boggles. Truly it does.

Ooooh, i think it's a lovely idea - all cuddled up in your sleeping bags watching telly by lamplight.

And i don't even watch telly at home

Camping time is tv free time. As someone who could happily live without a tv but is holed up with people who think the tv is broken if it's not on, I relish going away and escaping it!

Har har
I dont really bother watching Tv at home either, we usually take the laptop for DD, but thats about it.

I knew this thread would bring the "whats the world coming to, taking a TV in a tent!! " remarks!!!!!
We may be going to stay in the camper for the whole of the holidays, there will only be me and DD. I was thinking along the lines of, me and DD, 4th week, 8th day of rain - what shall we do today, kind of situation to be honest.

So, does anyone know if I have to have anything 'specific'??

I thought the whole point of a holiday was to get away from TV!

Report
Nixz · 30/07/2008 19:21

Yes it is.
But we will be there for nearly 6 weeks and I will be with DD on my own.

I dont want to sit and watch Jeremy Kyle and sunday re-runs!
I dont go abroad and look for pubs named the Rovers Return or the Red Lion.
I dont have my GHD's plugged in to our electric hook-up!!!
I am not a chav
I simply asked a question regarding a TV

I will be getting one like these

I am a telly addict and have a TV in that rises up from dashboard in car but will get another one to watch in tent in evenings

We will not be camping with friends and so may want entertainment in evenings

I am sorry but what is the world coming to if you take a tv camping.

twinsetandpearls · 30/07/2008 19:24

RTKangaMummy · 30/07/2008 19:25

I may not watch it but will still get one just in case

one of the reasons I love camping is no TV

exH & I went round Europe for 3 weeks without TV and it was great.

took kids camping for 4 nights recently & they didnt ask for TV once.

my DB & SIL have just returned from 2 weeks in Villa in majorca and when they got back, I invited them to come to our caravan (local)

No thanks "looking forward to TV and kingsize bed" was his reply

AAhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

I get you - TV and camping - stern looks of dissaproval!
But please read my posts, Im on my own with DD (7) for approx 5/6 weeks.

I wanted to know if I needed anything specific JUST IN CASE!

I always thought, after 4 years posting on here that If I started a thread where people 'moaned' at me that I would just click the little X on the top right hand corner - but its so bloody frustrating!!!!!

we don't have a t.v at home, but I can understand why it might be nice to watch a film all snuggled up in the sleeping bag, my dh has an i-touch and he puts movies on there which I suppose if we wanted to our dc could watch a film on... I hope you find something handy to use Nixz, well done you on six weeks? of camping!

I understand!
If I was camping with my 2 DCS alone, I would want DVDs or something as a fall back AND maybe to watch when they are asleep

can you take a DVD player instead of TV?
