What do you take into consideration when deciding which way to pitch?

Not sure if this has been asked before but how do you decide which way to have your tent facing?

View?
Sun?
Wind?
Slope?

Would be really interested to hear your views on this...

Depends on the weather. If it is windy and might rain, pitch the door away from the wind (so the rain doesn't blow in).

If it is sunny, don't pitch facing south so you have some shade from the midday sun.

If the pitch is sloping, you need to have your head uphill. If your head is downhill you won't sleep, and if you sleep across the slope you will roll/slide downhill. Best to find a flat pitch .

Usually pitch with head up hill and try to find the quietest spot but don't bother with much else
Have yet to experience a perfect flat pitch though !

We are going on our first trip next weekend to Pont Kemys looks pretty quiet, had not really thought about head uphill ... good point, thanks.

coffeemad its a flat site (very close to us) and pretty ewell sheltered- you'll be fine

tip- the usk garden centre (in raglan, there's a few- the one with the big tent stall) does love;y lunches etc

Ah that's good

think we'll be away, but do head over to Caerleon for a day out- (free) Roman Musem, amphitheatre / baths, and the ffrwm (from the post offvce, head away from the baths about a minute), cafe there or nice lunches in the ship or, if it gets too busy (sometimes does imo), keep to the left past it away from village until you hit kings pub. Both have nice play areas.

Ummm..... swimming pool in newport, raglan castle obv, easy enough (under hour) to get to either Barry for beaches or Brigend for shopping outlet, but tbh countryside around the campsite is stunning.

Oh, apparently three salmons (their grammar not mine!) in usk is nice, there's a little coffee shop there too with a nice outside courtyard- erm- big asda in cwmbran easy to find, M&S there too with food hall

Head uphill, away from the crowds in a quietish corner (if that's poss!!) away from the toilet, away from the entrance.

At night, the rain will keep dripping from a tree long after it's stopped raining and everyone else is getting a good nights sleep.

Pont Kemys is lovely - not very keen on the Chainbridge pub though (think its called that) but there is a lovely pub if you go left out of the campsite and then near the chainbridge take a steep road up towards the left - keep following it - takes quite a while by foot. Food is very very nice and they were lovely to dd.

My overriding factor is proximity to the loos.

Not too far away incase of a midnight dash for a number 2.

Not to close as it can get noisy!

hehe my main factor is the same as martianbishops, where are the loos as with A 2 yr old shortest runnng distance is always preferable!!
