Have bought a tent and looking to go camping for the 1st time with 2 children (4 and 18m) at the end of may (bh weekend) to try the tent out before we go away properly in August. Can anyone recommend a good campsite close - ish to SE London about an hour away? TIA

theres a really great campsite at manston in kent. its immaculate! it only takes 10 minutes to get to the beaches at broadstairs. the campsite is right next to the airport, but don't be put off, it's really not a problem.

Hi there, sorry to hijack, but I am after the same thing, going for the bank holiday with my 18mo ds.
Is the one in Manston called "Manston Caravan and Camping park?
Thanks!

There's one in Crystal Palace, SE London. Dunno what it's like, but very handy if you want to go into central London

Folkestone Warren Camping and Cravanning site is absolutely wonderful. Actually, I don't know why I'm telling anyone about it - DON"T GO THERE- IT'S MINE!

yes it is called 'manston caravan and camping park'. It's immaculate, has a shop, they make bacon butties, toast, all sorts so you can be really lazy if you want to be, emmm, lovely.

Hi there,
Arrived on Saturday morning and it was all well until midnight when it started pouring down with rain and ds decided to wake up at 4:30 am!! We had to pack up and come home as rain was instore for the rest of the weekend/Monday.

In terms of the site:
Lovely! They have lots of separate camping areas and they do group similar families/couples, etc together.
The grass is lovely and the areas are separated my trees.
The toilets and showers are really clean and there is a small shop selling the usuals.

We drove to Broadstairs for lunch (only 10 min away) and that was lovely as it has a sandy beach and good restaurants/cafes.

I couldn't recommend the site more! better luck with the weather next time!

In the end we went to palace farm camp site, in Diddington, Kent about 1.5 hrs away from home - had a great time, very quiet, no shop, bar, entertainment of any kind - heaven!

They had a fire pit that we hired £2 for the weekend. Chickens that were truely free range and a goat. Clean showers and loos, free hot water, no queues. Very fiendly and helpful owners. Would recommend.

Guys sorry had to join in. I went to that campsite 3 years ago. Wasn't it fantastic! So fantastic that although that year we went 4 times we've never been back. Why?......

We moved here. But I still think of it as one of the best campsites ever and use it to compare it to all others.
