have just got back from our week away, am a little confused our tent seems to have shrunk, as such it had 6 inch gaps on both sides between the floor and the tent iyswim. dont remember this last year. its only the 2nd time we've used the tent.
has anyone words of wisdom/ simliar experience?

Were you pitching it on a completely flat pitch? even a slight wobble in the ground can make tents do weird things! Did you try and move the poles to even things out?

Is it canvas? Did you repitch it to dry it out (if it was wet whan you struck camp)?
Canvas tents need to be re-pitched to dry out, or they will shrink.

no it wasnt a completely flat pitch, almost but not quite!
wasnt wet when we got there- when we were taking it down that was a different matter it was peeing down!!

sorry, when you took it down camp before this recent one, did you pack it away wet? This is only relevant if you have canvas. if you have a normal tent then I have no idea. Maybe someone is doing a Mr Twit style trick on you and lengthening your poles

LOL farb i was wondering if someone had switched poles .
its just a nromal tent- still not too clued up on all the diff camping terms, this was only my 2nd time camping so still have tonnes to learn, and have serious camping envy when pitched up and see what other campers have

well 'tis a mystery to be sure. I'd probably go with wonky ground as Lucycat says, but if it's shorter again next time you camp I'd be looking at your OH for silly goings on.

mmm did you take a photo for us to giggle at - sounds a bit like my dd1 and her rapidly growing legs vs trousers

Lucycat did you see my post on your welcome to Peachy's ds's thread?

No 1st pitch of the Guadeloupe this w/e (pissy weather), but i am off the hook as secrecy goes as DH wrote in my b'day card (on tuesday)

'As I love you so much, and you have been so very patient, please would you buy us a new weekend tent'.

I was able to inform him in all honesty (sort of) that new w/e tent had been purchased . He was amazed at how quick off the mark I was.

lol its very strange isnt it.
i do need to get a smaller tent. this one is my xp. he came with us for the first 2 trips out, but he isnt going to come next time, says my car is too cramped,i downsized in the new year. to be honest i rather he didnt come anyway, we get on well mostly but would like to go just me and the dc. had him come along the first couple of trips as didnt feel confident to go it alone, and he owns the tent so said i could only use it if he can come too.
so i need to find something smaller in hope that i have a hope of getting up on my own. would also like a sewn in groundsheet this time

any suggestions?

Well there is this thread here where a rather bored, slightly obsessive poster goes on and on about w/e tents .

Farb only you could get away with that!

but have you told him how much you paid for your 'weekend' tent?

She needs to be pitched and you muttering inside about what a bargain it was......and isn't she beautiful, doesn't she smell wonderful and only when he's fallen in lurve with her do you show him the credit card bill

Report
Farb · 21/04/2008 18:36

Oh yes, he absolutely has to smell it first before I tell him how much she cost (which is a whole £150 less than if I had actually waited until he said I could buy her).

I think large volumes of beer will also be involved pre revelation (plus nekkidity option....still VERY cold to think about that, but needs must)

I bought 4 delta pegs a few days back and was thinking about an exotic dance featuring delta peg juggling.......

maybe a step too far?

could get nasty tho' - with delta pegs, you'd never pull them out of any orifice - they're built like that y'know

pmsl A very good point.

Did you see that delta peg kick off thread on ukcs ?I was roffling away. Only on the big yellow (as I affectionately like to think of it) would people get all sweary about tent pegs.
