Does anyone use an event shelter instead of awning with caravan?

Our awning is too small to comfortably sit in and we don't want a large heavy awning for a number of reasons. Wondering about a stand alone instead.

Would need to have mesh sides to make it mozzie proof and probably proper sides as well although that is less important tbh as we will just sit in the van in bad weather.

Welcome any thoughts on this.

Having watched people chase after them in the wind, no, I wouldn't bother.

We use one as well as the awning but only for longer stays like main summer holiday. We have never had a problem with it blowing away although if there were huge winds forecasted, we'd probs take it down. How about one of those pull out shelters by Flama that attach to your van *(ie, you travel with it on). You can just keep it as a roof or also buy sides for them.

We do, decathlon one, but mostly because it's what we had pre campervan and don't see the need to replace it

Thanks for comments. I am not sure it is more of a problem than an awning wind wise?

We are also thinking about a fiamma sun shade too but it might be expensive and is less versatile I guess.

After a nasty incident where the shelter landed on top of the car, scratching it quite badly, we use those screw in dog anchors to hold the gazebo/shelter down.

We got a second hand one of these:
www.khyam.co.uk/tents-c705/pole-system-c708/quick-erect-c710/2020-screendome-quick-pitch-shelter-p2095

It is great - it goes up in about 1 minute and is very sturdy.

We use it with our small camper van - we really cant be bothered with lining up and clipping an awning on.
