my criteria

must get eurotunnel - therefore the drive cannot be a long way from calais, certainly not more than 3 hours

the site must accomodate a 5 year old

and ..................... FOUR teenagers, two of which will be sexed up and therefore not a problem leaving two almost 15 year olds to be entertained one is a girl who would spend the vacation reading and sulking.


needs to have much tacky entertainment like quizzes and kareoke.

needs to have a decent pool avec SLIDE

obv. goes without saying needs a bar.

will bump shamelessly until i have links to look at during my dinner hour which starts ......now

Duinrell in Holland

The best best *best waterpark in any campsite I have ever been to, and a free theme parc thrown in.

Just buy the food in France, but the pancakes are divine!!!!

Has bar, has some thrill rides for the older kids. loads of stuff for the littlies. theme park and 2 hours of water park are free each day. You can also hire bikes.

It is fantastic custy, my kids love it more than the holiday we had in Disney! We have been 4 times now.

It isn't Alton towers, but it is great!
All the regular companies go there, Keycamp, Canvas, eurocamp etc etc. They also do their own chalets called Duingalows! (but the latter are quite expensive)

I don;t know if it is near but we went to the De Efteling park a few years ago and it was fab and very reasonable. will get a link, we stopped at a villa which had a campsite attached but MBs campsite looks better.

It also has a bowling alley (not tested by us) supermarket (good but not massive) and resturant (not fantastic tbh....there is a better place just outside the gates)

You can google earth for it....looks cool!

Would second all positive comments on Duinrell, have been three times with kids ranging from 15 to 6 all desperate to go again. Think my kids return to school 2/9/08 as I'm back on a training day 1/8/08. In fact am looking to re-book myself next year, found Canvas holidays the cheapest at Whitsun half term this year.

You may remeber that we are in Wigan, we drove to and from the tunnel this year and it took us about 6 hours each time - not bad at all

Our favourite site is in Brittany but we have an overnight stop in Picardy so it's probably too far for you

I third (can one third?) Durinell, we Eurocamped there last year. Minboggling site rally, a bit like camping in Thorpe Park, but everything is in Dutch (although obviously they all speak English perfectly). Our dd's were much too young to experience all the best bits esp the pool, the flumes looked excellent.

Good on site shop, lovely clean washrooms.
Excellent really.

Dh and I have said we will return when the dd's can bugger off and entertain themselves a bit more.

Oh and the nearby beach is quite good too, bloody massive so certainly room to spread out , (I assume that's what teenagers want to do).

Oh aye! There are even sand dunes near by for the start crossed lovers to snog in!

My kids are 10 and 7, and we go with mates who's kids are the same age. They head off on their bikes in the late afternoon/evening while we adults sit and sip our wine!!!

We went in a Centuary van with canvas and they are fabbo. Soe even have decking, which is even better!

Not sure what the terms are for next year. will have a lok for you.

Duinrell is also in the Hoseasons brochure if you want a bungalow.

The town is within walking distance - another plus.

The childrens playground is enormous and contains all the great equipment that the UK has decreed unsafe

Fab post!! We're going to Duinrell for Oct half term!! Was £140 for the 4 of us with Eurocamp for 4 nights!! Whayhey!!!

Custy, sorry missed your last poast.

We did eurotunnel, as we are all crap sailors.

It is about 4 hours from the French side of the tunnel. Roads are busy, but moterway all the way except the last 1/2 hour or so. Real 'macro' navigation. Try not to arrive between 4-6, as the rush hour traffic in the area isn't great, and slows you up a bit.

We do a shop in Cite Europe at the tunnel, as the supermarket on site isn't fantastic.

But you could eailt shop in the UK and use the on site shop for milk, bread BBQ stuff etc

Another vote for Duinrell.

It's more than three hours driving from Calais, but it's a straightforward drive.

It would be worth the extra hour on your wish list. Offhand, I can't think of anywhere better within 3 hours of Calais (happy to be corrected with good ideas!)
