Does anyone have any recommendations for a heater for camping? I don't know where to start TBH - fan, panel, ceramic..

Nothing with a naked flame as you run the risk of Carbon monoxide poisoning. The rest depends on the size of the hook up. Fan heaters can be noisy if on during the night

We have a Tesco value fan heater, can be 1kw, 2 kw or work as a fan. It has a safety button so that if it gets knocked over it stops- this is important. We have never used it through the night though. It is pretty much instantaneous.

Once, when it was very cold we did take an small oil filled heater which we trialled leaving on through the night but didn't find that it helped a lot. These take longer to heat up and take more space/are heavier.

Whenever we have been winter camping we light a fire, and sleep around that it’s pretty efficient. We have a gas heater but don’t use it that much

Thanks all, we bought a fan heater that sounds very similar to profpoopsnagle's. And yes, we have hot water bottles too (I feel the cold!).

Don't us one of the gas canister ones - we had one on for a while then tried to light the stove and it would not light.

That was when we realised there was no oxygen left in the tent because of the heater.

It could have been a rather final camping trip.

Oh no, that sounds scary! No, we're definitely steering clear of gas.

We have a fan heater like the one described and it is great for an instant blast of heat. If the kids are off playing I can usually be found reading my book with it pointed directly at me.

We use a mini oil radiator. Worked fine in our tent with sewn in ground sheet. Certainly kept the chill off when we spent a week in Ghent and the outside temps were about 4 degrees C. We left it on 24/7 then!

Have you got 4 season sleeping bags as well? That really made the difference for me Smile

Ceramic fan heater that oscillates. Heats the tent up really well and isn't too noisy.
