Travel by public transport only, 2 adults, 2 small kids. What do you think?

Optimistic or mad, definitely one or the other

I am in a similar situation to you, in the sence that I have two small kids aged 3 and 1 and I have just returned form our first holiday (was a cottage in Wales) with no car. The travelling was akward, we had two big rucksacs, and a trolley with the travel cot. The little one was in a buggy, and the older one was walking. I really dont think I could have managed any more stuff. Camping would be very brave! We had to change trains once and it was difficult.

I will be doing this in just over a week.
Camping with my 4DC (On my own).

Travelling by train (hr) then bus for the last 3miles to haven camp site!

I still have no idea how we will carry everything or indeed what we need to take.

I have decided to buy food there and eat out in the evenings. More expensive way of doing it i guess but i have no choice as a single mum who can't drive.

When we went camping for the first time there was a Mum at the campsite on her own with no car.

She her a pushchair which was laden up as well as a child in it and she had a massive back pack on. Her other child pushed one of those old ladies shopping trolleys which was full to bursting and had a little back pack on.

They had a ball!

We have just travelled home from holiday (not camping admittedly) by public transport. Me and 4 dcs. You need a lot of energy but it is possible. Heaviest thing for any journey is always water with us - you need so much when it's hot.

Sincerest good luck

Yes do it. don't bother with a travel cot tho, far to bulky and not important enough for teh trouble. If your in a tent they can't fall off the ground!
Pack light, use a buggy or a shopping trolly as a pack horse if you can. Don't be afraid to ask people for help getting bags & trolly on and off trains. Some places its cheaper to eat out at lunch time and self cater at tea time.
Have fun

Go for it, there are some wonderfully cheap tents out there (parents doing something similar- no kids but Mum has reduced mobility and no car), choose a site that ahs eating facillities and a decent supermarket- eg pentewan sands.
