UK sites campervan/tent single pitch?

Hi, We are a family of six that tootle along in our T2 campervan (when it's not broken down, of course!). Obviously, we can't all fit in the van when sleeping so pitch a tent alongside. This can cause us problems because many campsites have a policy of trying to charge us on the double - even though the van is the size of a large car. We try to book well ahead having confirmed the policy allows us to park up beside the tent without hitting us for two pitches. The problem seems to be that because two people sleep in the van while the four others sleep in the tent this is considered two pitches. The kids are all under 12 by the way. We are looking at going to Yorkshire this summer. Any suggestions of good sites that don't charge on the double for parking the van beside the tent? Any help much appreciated. DougD

It does sound like 2 pitches to me.

I know what your saying but I think most will consider it two pitches. There is a campsite called Gordale Scar which is very basic but has open views to Malham Cove, I doubt they would charge for two. Otherwise when we had our camper we used an awning, I'm sure we didn't pay extra for it, you could do that and then have the pop up tents inside?

The thing is what costs a campsite is not the space you take up but the number of people staying. Do you pay a per person charge as well?

Thanks for this tip! We'll be taking a campervan plus two man - two man!- tent camping this year. We'll take up less space than a 6-man tent plus car, but hey-ho!
Is it more for a tent than an awning?

Can you not attach a driveaway awning to the van? Then you'll pay an awning supplement on most sites but not have to pay for a whole extra pitch.
