Anyone have a good self inflating mat? I have seen people here say you need 10cm, however I need one for an 11yo who will have to carry it a shortish distance with a rucksack - similar to scout camp.

Just found a 10cm reasonably priced on but it seems bulky from the reviews.... <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Single-Inflate-Inflatable-Sleeping-Mattress/dp/B01N9YH5F5/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1501595646&sr=8-7&keywords=self%20inflating%20mattress&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">//www.amazon.co.uk/Single-Inflate-Inflatable-Sleeping-Mattress/dp/B01N9YH5F5/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1501595646&sr=8-7&keywords=self%20inflating%20mattress&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

or is this type of thing better.... <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Mattress-Inflating-CHANODUG-Sleeping-Lightweight/dp/B0734XHCTC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1501596803&sr=8-4&keywords=self%20inflating%20mattress%20light&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">//www.amazon.co.uk/Mattress-Inflating-CHANODUG-Sleeping-Lightweight/dp/B0734XHCTC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1501596803&sr=8-4&keywords=self%20inflating%20mattress%20light&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

or something else?

I think either of those would be far too bulky!
My 10.5 yo is very comfy on a 2.5cm SIM. She had one which folded in the middle as well as rolling and it was tiny when packed.

My DS is 13 and he uses a camping roll mat, like a yoga mat I guess, for scout camps. He finds it easier to carry and pack away. They are also very light...

11yo scouts should have a foam mat, they can cope with roughing it and it will keep him warm and they are very cheap.

If there is more backpacking in his future, then a lightweight SIM is a bit more comfortable.Something like this

The 7-10cm SIMs are definitely for car camping.
