We are stuck on where to go - August bank holiday week

Needs to be in Scotland - I think that we have done the west coast to death in recent years (DH thinks we should go to the west coast).

With a dog, we are looking for good walking somewhere beautiful, ideally not on the west coast.

We like basic sites, no EHU or frills required ... definitely not clubhouses, quite like tent only sites, not bothered if it allows fires or not. Spidery showers are fine as long as they are otherwise clean with hot water.

We are a six hour drive from Inverness, Oban or Aberdeen - anywhere within six hours is fine.

Grateful for recommendations, mainland not islands (we are staying on Mull later on in the year).

Yes west coast but have you been this far south? www.wildcamping.co.uk/forums/dumfriesshire/9086-mull-galloway.html It's a lovely area. We stayed in one of the old lighthouse cottages one August and there were only ever a handful of campers, it's right on a small beach. Had the much bigger beach a few miles along completely to ourselves (incl dog) one sunny afternoon in Aug.

Thanks, it doesn't look like there are any facilities there unless I am mistaken - we need showers and loos for a week.

Fortrose Bay campsite is literally on the Coast just by Rosemarkie beach, amazing walks and good dolphin spotting.
Sango Sands at Durness, North coast has amazing views (has a restaurant on site open to public but that's it) and again fab coastal walks with Caves almost next door too.

First pic is Sango Sands (you camp on the cliff) and next is Fortrose Bay.

Thank you, you have reminded me how beautiful it is up there, I went to the area quite a bit for work a few years ago. I will have a look. Interesting that it must be on NCN500, I will check, DH wants to do that so I bet he will be keen to have a look!!

Shame it isn't a bit later on, we might see the lights!

You have opened my mind to going even further Milliways, I have emailed this place.

All this is subject to me being up to it, I am having an op but I don't know when!

We are in, booked Shock. Quick response, I will not be taking my phone!

I am sure I will either be fine or not have had my op by then so I am carrying on.

That looks good. We only did from Loch Lomond up the East coast, Cairngorms, and down past Loch Ness. Need to do the West coast and Islands.
Do you have a Camper (tin tent) too, or are you a proper tent camper. Will be interested to read your reviews.
Hope your Op doesn't clash and you get a proper break :)

We have done the West Coast and islands a lot, love it all. I love the solitude of the hills and the coast walks. Ardnamurchan point and Sanna Bay are incredible Milliways if you get to the west coast.

Proper tent camping but we do take a ⛺️Tent with a 🔥Fire if the long range weather forecast is not brilliant.

On a three week trip up the west coast/islands a few years ago in August we had 8 degrees, 60-70 mph storms and all sorts thrown at us. That is the most use our 🔥 has ever had .... in August!
