Camping in France?

We're seasoned UK holiday campers but looking at taking the euro tunnel to France this summer in July with 2 kids aged 4 and 1. We'd like great camping within 3-4 hours drive of Calais where we could potentially take a day trips to Disney Paris and coastal towns. Would have loved to go to La Rochelle or nearby but it's quite a long drive by the looks of it and then quite a way to Paris...though we could potentially leave that for another time. Any suggestions welcome!

It depends on how much you want to go to DLP. We went to Chateau de Monfreville 2 years ago for our first non-uk camping trip and if was fabulous but it's in Normandy. It's about 20 mins from the coast and 30 mins from the nearest city (Bayeaux). We took the Euro Tunnel and then it was about 4 hours drive west from Calais.

The site itself is quite small but has animals to feed, a games barn, natural swimming pool, jacuzzi, bikes to borrow. A few nights a week the owner cooks chicken and chips or moules and everyone eats in one of the barn and takes their own drinks. He also brings fresh bread, croissants etc round on a morning.

We visited Bayeau, the beach, lots of interesting WWII sites, Cherbourg, cycled round the area etc - highly recommended.

We went to chateau de monfreville last year - one of my favourite French campsites (and I've been camping in France for over 30 years).

We've been to Camping Croix du Vieux Pont, Berny-Riviere (Picardie) a couple of times - it's 2 hours from Calais, 90mins to Euro Disney & really accessible to Rheims/ Amiens/ Pierrefonde. It's a fabulous site with a nice vibe.

Also recommend Normandy. Have a look at Chateau Les Eaux - a really lovely Les Castels site (kind of upmarket French sites). Small swimming indoor pool complex which is fab for little ones (we had 2 x 4yr olds & 10 week old), outdoor pool, playground, you can fish, but its a smallish site. Lovely little bakery, pizzeria if you want it. Book direct with the site as it tends to be cheaper than with UK camping companies.
