Camp beds for the old and creaky

I'm looking for recommendations for something to make camping a more comfortable experience.

I am old and creaky (I have arthritis). As novice campers we had airbeds but now have self-inflating mats and thermal mats, but by morning I'm immobile and in agony. Before I give up and book myself into a boutique hotel while the rest of the family go camping, is there anything else I should try? Is a camp bed the answer?

Watching with interest. We had to give up the camp beds in order to fit the kids in the car and DH struggles with the self inflating mattress due to a broken back.

OP, the fishing camp beds are VERY comfortable, but they are also very bulky.

What about those tents where the sleeping area is raised off the ground and inflates the mattress? I know it's like lugging an extra tent but I like the look of them just to be off the ground.

Ah, now, that's just the sort of recommendation I was hoping to hear.

I'm sorry you had to jettison the camp beds and your DH is struggling. We've just acquired a bigger car and a roof box, so have the luxury of contemplating getting a bit more kit.

Oh there are some AMAZING camp beds which are literally like single beds. Proper style and everything.

Lemme google

I've never heard of those, gamerchick. Have they got a name I could google?

Something like this? Sure you could get it much cheaper:

I was comfy on a very very thick yoga mat and self inflating mattress. Yoga mat was on top.

Aldi have some on sale it's more like a sturdy hammock bed. It packs away into a bag which is long but fairly narrow.

We've bought one for FIL for his upcoming birthday Grin

Thank you, QueenBean. I'm going to start researching similar beds. Its dimensions are a bit of a worry, even with our lovely new roofbox, but needs must.

I'm sure you were comfy, Believeitornot, but the two mat combo no longer works for me. Even with the Thermarest and a good self-inflating mattress, my back locks and I have to be hauled to my feet in the morning because I can't move. At least with a bed I might be able to swing my feet to the floor and get moving and so I'm looking for options and recommendations.

I've just slept on a Fineway Delux Inflatable mattress (look them up on Amazon) for the past 3 nights and had a lovely nights sleep. It's a few feet off the ground so you don't have the issue of sleeping at floor level. You'd have to have hook up though to plug it in as its electric (it goes up in about 3 mins with no effort!)

Thanks for that suggestion. We have EHU so that could be an option.

Does anyone have any views on whether a bed is (or isn't) better than a thick mattress like the one above? I think I'm erring towards a bed with mats on top.
