North West Cheap Campsites

Looking for campsite recommendations in the North West and Lake District.

Less is more.

Ideal site would be near/in forest near lake or stream (bonus points if it is shallow enough to play in)

Would be nice if they allowed off ground bbq.

Site wise just need water tap, toilet & shower.

Looking for very cheap site fees.

For one car, two adults, four children (aged 4yo to 10yo) With a big family tent (12 man one)

A lot of the sites I have looked at seem fine at first look but once everything is added up we are looking at £35 a night for a very basic site. We could go to Haven (shudder) for £40.

Any ideas ?

Hi

Not North West but not too far from it.

We are going here this weekend so I can report back on how it is but seems nice and has a pond and a little stream for kids to play in. It's costing us £20 per night for 2 adults, 2 kids so i think for an extra 2 kids it would be another £4 per night. No set pitches so you might not get charged more for your big tent (ours is only 6 man one). BBQ allowed but not camp fires. Also has play area for kids and heated bathrooms and an on site shop and weekend catering.

I'm not sure what this would add up to for your family but I'd recommend Church Stile Farm & Holiday Park in Nether Wasdale in Cumbria. We stayed earlier this year. Lovely well run quiet site, a short walk and a shorter drive from wastwater, which is gorgeous and great to paddle or swim, with a good hotel and a microbrewery right by the campsite. Always a bonus!

Hi, we just got back and it was really nice.
Very busy as it was a bank holiday weekend but plenty of space for every one and we never had to wait for a shower or toilet.
Shop is ok, has the usual basics. Lots of walks around and lovely pubs in walking distance.
Has a river running through it which was nice and the kids enjoyed splashing in there and looking for bugs and you can fish in the lake (big pond really).

Ok, so not exactly north west, but Shropshire hills. Brow farm, Rattlinghope. Ticks all your boxes, plus within walking distance f a great pub.
