What do you think of this tent? Outwell Alamosa

I am SO tempted to buy this tent. It's absolutely beautiful but bloody expensive.

I can't find any reviews. Has anyone seen one/ stayed in one?

In my defence, it's polycotton so will last forever.

What's the difference between this tent and the Outwell Phoenix? They look like great tents but the thing that put me off buying one like this was the lack of enclosed front porch. Also, how many DC do you have? Will they be OK sharing a bedroom pod?
When I was looking at new tents recently, I really liked the Outwell Phoenix and the Vango Rhapsody. Eventually decided to spend the kids' inheritance on a Karsten instead!

The open porch is the thing I love most. You're outside but really sheltered.

What do you want to know about it? The big Outwells are a beast to pack and pitch, (nearly 50kg of them) but great when up. It's brand new out isn't it?

Outwell Montana is a good option, think it's a best seller

If it's brand new that would explain the lack of reviews, and the fact that I can't find one second hand.

It's an Air tent so hopefully won't be too difficult to pitch, but I do think it is massive when packed up.

Montana doesn't have the lovely porch with opaque sides that is the main reason for my lust.

I suppose I want to know any downsides people have experienced with it, or anything when you stayed in it that I might be put off by.

It's such a lot of money, I've got to be sure it's great before I invest

What's your current tent for comparison?

If I was contemplating spending £1700 on a tent I'd drive to see one pitched, or at least some similar ones. Yeoman's have tent displays up and down the country, it's in their 2016 range. I dragged DH to one of these to convince him to buy an Outwell Montana and by the end of it we went for a polycotton Wolf Lake 5 instead.

It sounds like it has a sewn in groundsheet, so the canvas will be really heavy to handle in that case, I mean folding/unfolding/transporting - it must be a mahoosive bag. And you still have to peg it.

Otherwise we find having polycotton tent with a (smaller in our case) porch just fine. Except now the DC don't want to share a bedroom and we have gained a small annex tent!

Raising- we went to a tent show looking for a new tent (we've had 2 DC since the last time we went camping). I was only thinking we'd spend about £600, but then saw this one pitched. I don't think I'm too worried about the bulk of it packaged- we park next to our pitch when we go camping mostly anyway so won't have to carry it

The Montana does have both a porch and awning you can add to it. I've heard the air tents can go rotten (inside the tubes from condensation). Also any bigger than the Montana and your looking at poss getting turned away from the lovely smaller campsites due to size.

A couple of similar alternatives that were in the Go Outdoors flyer today are the Outwell Lakeside 600 and Vango Anteus 600. The Lakeside is basically the poles & polyester version of the one you were looking at, has exactly the same dimensions.

My outwell polyester tent is 15 years old and still going strong. If you look after them the cheaper polyester and poles version will last until the kids don't want to camp anymore and you need a smaller tent!

And the Lakeside I think was £600 inc carpet and footprint in Go Outdoors (got the same leaflet today).

Hmm. Those two DO have the porch I was after! Unfortunately, I've ordered the Alamosa now and have psyched myself up for the beautiful beige canvasness of it now. But if I had seen them at the same time as the Alamosa, I probably would have picked the Lakeside instead!

Have you got a big garden to dry it at home? I had a big poly cotton tent once and it was a bugger to dry and twice as heavy when wet as its dry weight! I nearly left it on a campsite once as I was struggling so much to put it back in the car in a monsoon!

What are you going to transport it in? Genuinely interested. I calculated it has dimensions of a wheelie bin. . That's why we now go camping in a van!

Crikey a wheelie bin- They didn't mention that when we were looking round it pitched!
Thankfully we have a people carrier car with a massive boot. Might also look for a cheap/free roof box for the car for all the equipment

With my polycotton tent I sold my Yaris and bought a Ford Fusion thinking Id need a bigger car and it has a massive almost estate size boot. Bloody tent didn't fit in it! I had to put it ion the back seat and I could only just shut the doors!
