Camping

Tell me about your smaller tent.

We are a family of campers and have always had giant tents as there are 6 of us. However, now we're replacing our beast, we want to buy 2 good smaller tents, one for DH, the younger kids and me and the other for the teens. I've also replaced my car and it has a smaller boot so they need to be tents that pack away small too. There aren't really any budget restraints.

Any advice gratefully received!

We have downsized our tent over the years - but there are only 3 of us..
have a bear lake (probably should sell but it is lovely and ds really likes the kids room although have not used it for 2 years Grin)
bought this - as our smaller tent - went for technical cotton as camp in south of france - its fab we have even taken it on the train..... I would def get one of their tents again....

I know its not really small but is light and quite compact..
Depends where/how you camp but in France often saw families in small quecha pop ups pitched around a gazebo/coleman shelter- I'm not completely sure it works for more rainy parts though...but very easy to put in a car like these....

Ohh, Avery, I was looking at that eureka tent the other day. We used to have a Eureka Copper Canyon 12 person and I loved that tent so would happily buy another. We already have a gazebo. Here, pretty much every campsite provides picnic bench and fire ring so the gazebo goes over the picnic bench. Very handy to keep your breakfast dry on a rare rainy morning!

I should point out I don't live in the UK. Pottering, I don't think Vango is sold over here as I've looked for one before.

I love tent shopping too!

Ah, sorry Smile

I love tent shopping too. I can't wait for my children to grow up so I can buy a bigger one Grin (they're only 1 and 4 at the moment).

We used to have a Eureka tent and it was excellent. Only swopped it because we got a trailer tent. I have often eyed up a smaller tent from them as a maybe one day we will pack light and travel on the train tent.

Yes I do find packing all the camping bits hard but bank on the weather being good so one fleece worn rather than lots of layers Grin
One wheels bag of kit one of tent and a rucksack of clothes ...
No luggage restrictions on the train ...not sure I could manage a fly-camp yet....

I have a Vango Kalu, which is small but with the awning, vast. So the teens could be in a v small tent just for sleeping, and use the frnt awning of a medium sized tent for socialising.

Or do you want them to socialise elsewhere too ? Grin

What sort of climate are you camping in if not UK?
