Preferably with pool and playground. I'm thinking of St Ives Bay in Hayle at the moment but interested in hearing feedback good or bad, or alternatives.

Gwithian Farm is a lovely site. Doesn't have a pool or playground but is walkable to a stunning beach, on St Ives Bay. We took the bus from there to St Ives.

A site with stunning private beach and fab children's play area is Mother Iveys bay, near Padstow. Barbecues allowed on the beach there.

If you don't mind not being far West, Pentewan Sands has a indoor pool, kids soft play and a playground on its own Private Beach. It is a huge site and we loved it but had a great pitch. I would not want to be in the middle sections, only a sea front/sea view pitch.

Thanks Milliways (love the name) Pentewan is our list for an out of season weekend sometime. We need a beach with waves for body boarding though. I've promised DD (aged 8) a surfing lesson or two. Mother Ivey's looks lovely but I think we'll save that for a weekend as I can't face Padstein August crowds and we've done Newquay and Bude in the last few years so want to head further West.

Gwithian looks lovely but would there be enough to amuse the kids? I assume there will be loads of kids to run around with in August.

We love the Hayle area and have stayed at a small site at Gwithian for the last three years called Atlantic Coast. It is very small and has limited facilities but we just wanted to be near Gwithian Sands beach.

We stayed at St Ives Bay four years ago but only used the pool once as the kids just wanted to be on the beach. We found it to be a large and noisy site but it would certainly meet your requirements facilities-wise.

Loved Pentewan Sands as a campsite.

Hayle isn't a very nice town to be honest. Gwithean Towans (which I think is where you mean by St.ives Bay) is BEAUTIFUL and the campsites seem to have lots going on, however the beaches are massive and no toilets etc easily accessible. There is a lovely campsite in St.Ives town itself (Ayr holiday park) with a beach about 10 minutes walk away and the other 4 beaches are maybe 20 minutes walk. Town centre about 10 minutes away too. There is another campsite (Polmanter) a bit further out of town that has a new indoor play area for the little ones and sounds fab. Pretty sure there was a pool there too xx
