So I'm a wuss. Last time we camped in the UK it was 7 degrees in the tent at night and I was bloody miserable because of it. I can slum it all you like, but sleeping in a bobble hat really got me grumpy. So we've booked a pitch this weekend with a 6amp EHU and they proved the cable, and I'm off to go outdoors tomorrow to buy a 1kw heater and some off the ground beds (bloody hate the airbeds and I can't wait to get rid!!).

But I've noticed (after calling 15+sites) that this one only allows GAS BBQ's and we only have a one ring gas cooker and there are no on site facilities. So how the heck am I going to feed 4 of us for 2 nights with a single gas burner and a hook up? Will a 6 amp EHU tolerate a toaster or electric kettle?

Stumped.....

It will cope with a low wattage (camping) kettle or toaster ( one at a time)

You need 1 frying pan meals like fajitas or a 1 pot rice dish with bread.

We solved this by buying a second one ring gas stove (instant lighting sort with gas cartridges) for £10 in Halfords.

We take a halogen oven & kettle. You can do most stuff in halogen oven.

I think electric blankets are better than a heater.

Enjoy :)

We camped fircthe first time last weekend. We bought a 10 amp EHU & it coped fine with a travel kettle & electric cool box (we forgot the toaster)

We walked to the pub for tea , had cereal & yoghurt for breakfast & tuna/corned beef sandwiches, tomato soup, & tinned sausage & beans with crusty bread for lunch.

Thanks. I've decided to pre-make some pasta tomorrow and I've a frozen tub of veg Bol sauce already (one veggie in the family which doesn't help!) When we get there I'll warm through the cooked pasta and the sauce together. Saturday looks warmer so I think I'll take a tin of potatoes, an onion and some peppers, and whizz up a Spanish omelette with salad a mx bread. I can do eggy bread for breakfast, and I've just seen that argos value £4 toaster is only 800w so I might get one of those just for camping.

Got some good deals on the clearance shelf of go outdoors today. One of those small aluminium mini tables reduced to £5 (safer to have the heater on that) and a compact kitchen for £15. I thought camping was cheap Wink

look and see if the campsite has a microwave you can use - we were recently at an otherwise basic site which has a little room with a kettle and microwave - we had 2 rings but the weather was awful so rather than stand for ages cooking rice we just heated up chilli brought from home and binged boil in the bag rice!

You could buy a plug in electric hob. Or a griddle.
