You won't regret it PartyFops. We've brought ours over to France & its been a godsend in 30+c - amazed at its ability to chill fresh stuff down. Have been regularly swopping in refrozen ice packs. Our plugin would have given up! Have to say their gel packs are pretty impressive too????

Well I uhmmed and hummed and hesitated over buying one for a long time - three years. Once you've bought the box (I bought a 40 ltr) and four gel packs (2 to use and 2 to freeze at the campsite for swapping out purposes) and the £12 delivery charge, you're looking at a whopping £182 all in. That's more expensive than some actual fridges!

However, having returned from a 10 day trip yesterday with my brand new Icey-Tek in tow, I can confirm that it keep our stuff cold for the entire time we were away. We were camped in a remote location with the nearest supermarket a marked effort to get to, and it really came into its own. I kept days worth of meat, fruit and dairy on site.
It did exactly what it said on the tin.
So relieved.

It's here! I unpacked it and stuck some frozen water bottles in it, then had to leave it to come out and run errands. I guess I can cook and freeze some meals to take away with us now.

Am considering an Icey Tek. What happens if you are somewhere remote and don't have access to refreeze ice packs or buy ice? would it still keep things cool for a weekend, what about a week or 5 days? There would be some frozen stuff in there to begin with.

After 4 days, if you have bags of ice and ice packs, and frozen stuff - IME it would still be v cool, but not frozen. (as long as you are not opening the lid and leaving it open all the time)

It really depends how often you open the lid and let the cold air out. Like any cool box it's going to work best when it has very little air circulating inside. It might be worth getting some bubble wrap so you can separate the layer of frozen food from the stuff you put in chilled.

Ooh, I might try the bubble wrap idea. We just got ours and I'm really hoping to avoid going shopping every day this year. They were out of gel packs when I ordered mine so I'm just using regular blue blocks. Are they much more effective? Might treat myself next year.

I've got two of their large gel packs and they are really effective. I put one in an Aldi picnic hamper for our trip back up through France (it was in there for 11 hours and the boys were constantly taking cans of drink out). The drinks stayed cool throughout (the bag is rated as keeping things cool for 4 hours).

They are expensive...4 gel packs set me back £50 (I still balk at it)...but they do perform well. Very well.

The aussie gel packs contain commercial gel which when used in an Iceytek enables them to stay frozen for 1-2 days. Also they are much larger and are about the size of an A4 sheet of paper.
