We are trying to plan a six week camping trip in the summer - Yorkshire and North.

I know where we will camp in Yorkshire and the Lakes.

We will be alone for two of the weeks (separate weeks) and other than those weeks when I prefer to be on a fairly occupied site (me, child and soppy dog) we would like to be on quiet sites, choose where you pitch types, no facilities bar a shower block (which can be spidery etc., etc. as long as it is somewhat clean).

I will probably go to places we know for those two weeks so somewhere in the Dales and probably the Low Wray site in the Lakes.

I am making a list from UK campsite but if anyone has any sites they love and can recommend that we might like north of the Lakes I would love to hear about them!

Can be anywhere, including western islands, we will probably plan on staying somewhere for 4/5 nights before moving on.

Also, any knowledge of good events to go to that could steer where we went at a certain time would be great.

Hotbot, we love it at Low Wray, we book a waterfront pitch, take our canoe and walk until we ache! Mind you, we once had someone pitch in between us and the water Hmm and the staff we very ineffectual, great location though.

Lane Foot Farm in Thornthwaite is amazing - the quiet site in particular as you can pitch where you like.

Honey Cottage caravan/campsite in Ettrick Valley in the Borders near Selkirk is nice and simple and there's a river and walking etc. Camusdarach campsite on the road to the isles is wonderful too, near Morar and Mallaig. The beach is superb.

Thank you Arken (I grew up near Arengarthdale!).

They both look lovely, I will add them to the list. Just trying to work out a route that allows me to come back to Yorkshire/Lakes without adding too many extra miles.

Hotbot - waterfront is amazing, hope you don't get the stupid random camper with the extra large tent pitching in front of you when you are out for the day ... they didn't even make him move! Only once out of four visits so the odds are fairly small.
