Camping

Quick (probably dumb!) question from a relative newcomer to camping

We bought a new tent recently to replace the one we had that wasn't big enough (even though we've only ever camped for a couple of nights a year for the last few years).

This one comes with 2 different sorts of pegs - the usual metal ones (approx diameter of a pencil) but also has some heavy duty 'flat' metal ones IYSWIM.

I presume one sort is for the guy ropes and the other is for pegging the bottom of the tent out ? In which case which is which.
Or are the chunky ones for use in gale force winds Hmm or something?

They might be rock pegs for use in harder ground?

The chunky ones will be for when you are pitching on hard ground. The are stronger so go through a stone / rock rather than being bent.

No they're not like the ones you linked to Due.

They're more like this

In fact they might be even chunkier than the ones on my link (sorry, can't remember exactly as I unpacked the tent a while ago but had a sudden panic as we're camping in it this weekend for the first time!)

I would guess they are for a similar purpose to the ones I linked. We use the big ones for pegging the groundsheet bit and main ropes and then the littler ones for all the extra ropes and bits. So like 4 thick ones for the four corners and main guy ropes.

As long as it's not too windy etc I wouldn't worry and you'll know if you need the heavy duty ones as the smaller ones will just bend when you try to hammer them in.

I'm jealous we have a new baby so missing out on the camping fun this summer. Have a great time!

Have a lovely weekend in your new tent!

What did you get?

It's a Vango Isis.

I spent ages at the end of last summer deciding what sort of tent to buy this year and decided on a Vango Icarus but then they went and 'discontinued' it (well, changed it slightly and it became the Isis).

Getting quite excited about our first outing!

The Isis looks great.
Where are you going?
