Can anyone recommend a nice, fairly peaceful campsite in the Dordogne? Ideally with playground and pool but minimal entertainment.

Thanks!

Domaine de Mathevies might be perfect - link here: www.mathevies.com/

Also search under the names in Camping as there are a number of MN reviews.

Le Paradis is lovely. Still run by the same family that ran it more than 30 years ago when I went there as a child! I've visited recently and it's still lovely (but with more modcons!!)

Thanks songbird I've had a look at le paradis and it looks lovely, but then I read a review saying it was really noisy so I'm unsure. Also looked at les valades which looks really nice.

I'll have a look at that one too mummypig, thanks.

Helpful toddler posting that too soon! Was going to say, haven't been there in a few years but le soleil plage in vitrac was always a lovely quiet site with the river and nice pool. Went in June and August and it was quiet both times. Lovely restaurant too.

I should say that I think Mathevies is ideal if you have young children but for older ones you might want to look elsewhere possibly.

I agree Les Paradis is lovely, last year though they were full and instead we went to camping perigord in tursac. Still lovely and 1/2 the price!!

This is utterly unhelpful but... I went to Les Paradis twice as a 8-10 year old. The owners (Dutch, I think) were lovely (I believe the old guy died but that it's still in the same family). It was a really, really, special campsite - canoes on the river, a pool, tennis courts etc. There were beautiful humming bird moths every evening (not like nasty UK moths)! The place has been etched into my memory and I can't wait to take my DC.

They send us a Christmas card for years and we only went twice.

please let it not have been spoilt in the last 25 years

Same here sarahbeeny. The family are so lovely (you're right, they are Dutch). My parents kept in touch with them over the years, and the son who took over the running of the place has really maintained the friendly atmosphere. My parents now live not far away and we went for the day a couple of years ago. Beautiful site!
