Any recommedations for sites in Scotland in August??

2 adults, 3 children and a campervan would like to go to Scotland in August. We'd like to be on a quiet, smallish site, very near a lovely beach where we can build a fire in the evening and not be devoured by midges. Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Also Arisaig has some stunning sites. If you want low midge quotient camp at the seaside rather than near lochs.

Although we are considering Loch Morlich this year at Aviemore.

Ubik1 Funnily enough I was looking at a site near Arisaig but was worried about midges. Are they less of a problem by the sea?

Looking at port ban now. Thanks.

We have stayed at Camusdarach at Arisaig - absolutely stunning although larger than Port Ban. We camped in August and the midges seem to be blown away by the sea breeze.

We go to Port Bsn every year - campsite is set apart from main caravan site. There are plenty of white sandy beaches to explore and the Kilberry Inn. It's not noisy or overcrowded.

Isle of Mull is great for remote camping and you can there is a farm which has lovely spaces and you can boat to Iona from there.

Saw fidden in cool camping but don't fancy the extra hassle of getting there.

Culzean castle (if you are members of National Trust you can get into the castle too & the grounds are amazing) The campsite is camping & caravaning club, though the beach isn't right at the campsite. Nice, small & well-maintained site though.

Big Sands at Gairloch is on the most incredible beach (looks like the Caribbean on a sunny day!) it's also small and family run, and because its not all flat and quite spread out its easier to get a really private feeling pitch. There are some midges but never been a huge problem any time I've been there.

It looks great. Smile

If you are feeling adventurous you can take a day trip to Eigg from Mallaig.

I think that's where we're going. For one week anyway. Need another site for a week.
