Dp dss and I love to camp but tend to try to find campsites that aren't too expensive as we don't need a hook up or mod cons. We've been known to camp without loos even but tbh we do prefer a loo at least.

Ones we've tried and liked/loved are, Crimdon dene farm (C&C club certified) Strathmore Arms pub Teesdale, The Countryman Bolam (C&C certified) York House caravan park near Robin Hood's bay (takes tents), Barnard Castle (C&C).

The latter two have more facilities but the first ones are very cheap, around £5 per unit per night.

We're off to a new one midweek if it's not too bad weather wise and I'll post that one if it's ok. Sounds good by reviews. Also going to Keswick C&C again in August. Love it there. Although not classed as the same area as my title Wink

If anyone can recommend others they've tried I'd appreciate it. TIA

Thanks swanny.

Cross the Strathmore Arms off my list. Just checked and they've stopped doing it. We loved camping there.

Hawes is nice, North Yorkshire but its been a while since i was there. Also look at stanwix in cumbria. Have you visited up here before? i could give you some places to visit which seem to be invisible to anyone from outside the north east Grin

If you are members of the c&c club, we stayed at a lovely cs last year. High horcum farm near pickering. Despite us going in august, we only shared the site withanother tent. It was a great base for exploring the area. We paid 10 pounds a night with ehu and showers/toilets.

Another vote for Brockwell wood. No facilities other than a tap but beautiful huge woodland pitches and you hardly see anyone else. £8 per adult, £4 pet child. Also boe rigg in Bellingham - £7 per adult and £3 per child. Not too over crowded, lovely site, great facilities and a fantastic cafe too.

Swanny I'd be very interested in your north east recommendations too!

Yes we're members of C&C.

Thanks so much everyone I'm going to make a list.

swanny I have visited Cumbria plenty but not camped afaik? Swaledale is on the border though isn't it? Muker's nice to camp and also at Tan hill pub. It's only £2 for a tent there but make sure it's at the very least semi-geodesic!! Grin

www.doxfordfarmcottages.com/camping/ not camped here ourselves, but have used their cottages nearby. Handy location for visiting many of the wonderful beaches up and down the Northumberland coast (Low Newton, Beadnell, Bamburgh and Alnmouth are firm favourites) or going inland to any number of interesting places such as Cragside (National Trust) etc, or even on a wet day driving down to Newcastle and visiting the Discovery museum (which is excellent and free).

Hi Juniper yes there's a loo - just one and a stand pipe but its great horses in the field next door and woody walks straight from the site plus a fire pit per pitch and a great chippy in the village - all for 6 pounds per pitch per night!!!! Only thing is that the road noise from cars going round the sharp bend that the site is on can be a bit annoying but the plus points outweigh it for us. .... enjoy
